Timonen: possible hip flexor, expected to play Thursday

On Post Game Live, they just announced Timonen has a lower body injury. Could have gone back in the 3rd, but held back. Possibly play next game.

Could be a nagging injury for the playoffs?

He had an injury earlier in the month which was the reason Syvret was recalled.

It could be related.

Tim P. issued this his Twitter:
Quote:
Holmgren expects timonen to play next gm. Source tells me "he is banged up but no specific injury." holmgren said he was held out in 3rd

Wish Pronger was healthy so we could give Timonen a break. I am scared how we would look wo both of them.

Might be a good idea to give him some time off anyway, pronger has gotten his, why not our other aging defenceman.

He did not play well tonight at all. Give him a break and call up syvret or Gus.

Another twitter remark on CSN says "minor injury, something he had before" which raises the probability that it could be related to the reason Syvret was recalled earlier.

Rest him. He needs it. A (somewhat) fresh Kimmo and Pronger heading into the playoffs could take us all the way. Kane beat him on a move last season to win the Cup that he probably should have never gotten beat on.

Wrong. Watch that replay. Timo played Kane perfectly, kept him to the outside, limited him to a shot from a bad angle which even a bush league AHL goalie shoud have stopped.

That was all Leighton.

The injury has been isolated to the hip.

I dont understand why they would play Timonen if he is hurt... let him rest for playoffs. Thats where it matters.

Either way, I assume someone (Gust or Syvret, Gust more likely) will be recalled tomorrow.

I watched the replay before I posted that maybe it wasn't the best instance. But they were all gassed the last two games.

Either way Kimmo needs a few days off

Finishing first in the conference/division gives the team a stronger chance deeper in the playoffs. If it's a nagging, minor injury, it would make sense if Kimmo wants to help lock that up by continuing to suit up.

If the boys string together another couple of wins, he'll probably get some time off.

Eh I disagree. I think the percentage is higher with a healthy Timonen then finishing in first. Well maybe it thats just me, but a fully healthy Timonen (and a rested one) I think is more important.

Plus we have been hearing from some how Timonen has been terrible and the other three have been as good/better.

Oh I agree. One huge issue is that on our defence, our 2 best Dmen are both 35 years old or over. They need rest, and it wont go well for us if they play hard uptil the last day of the regular season. (our forwards are all young except Briere, they'll be fine barring injuries)

That being said, I havent been pleased with Flyers and their play since Jan 1st, so that 'huge lead' they had in December has virtually evaporated (Caps are one point behind) .. so they screwed themselves with their casual play.

Now they have to play everyone to their last gasp to keep their seeding. Looking back at December, this was totally unnecessary... they COULD have been in Vancouver's position today... coast along, rest a few banged up bodies...

Even with Pronger out I still hope he doesn't rush back if his hip is bothering him. Timonen didn't look like himself when he did play last night, so it was no surprise to me that something was up.

Didn't they say Pronger was fine and he wound up getting surgery. Hopefully Kimmo's injury isn't serious

I was looking at it from Kimmo's perspective. I'm fairly certain he'd rather help the team grab top spot than let a nagging injury force him to the sidelines down the stretch.

Per CSN and Tim P.:
Quote:
GM Paul Holmgren says K. Timonen feeling better; should play vs ATL. Sources tell me his hip flexor, which he has had all season, acting up.

Playing the number 7 seed instead of the 8 seed wont make all that much difference in our chances. Having an injured D core will.

I've had hip flexor issues for years. Once that thing starts tightening up/acting up, there's likely little that can be done about it, except strengthening it in the offseason and lots of stretching. Maybe if he has it ultrasounded before every game, it'll help.

It'll definitely interfere with his mobility.
