Kings @ Canucks 3/31/10 - First big post-Kopitar test

I'm gonna have to cut this team some slack tomorrow. While I hope they come out competitively, I kind of expect a bit of a dud after the emotional roller coaster they've been on the past 4 days. This is not a must-win game.

Nevertheless, GO KINGS!

It will be a close game.

Having good D and goaltending always keeps you in games.

Ponikarovsky and Simmonds Deserve to be in the top 6 over Penner and Moller.

They will show up big time. This is the type of game teams mark on a calender. The Kings will be chomping at the bit. Plus the Kings have a lot to play for.

Van might get caught napping they are going to rest players soon.

Based on what? Simmonds hasn't really shown that he can contribute on the top 2 lines. Poni has worked his ass off, but they are both perfect on the "3rd" line.

With Williams and Kopitar out of action, Murray doesn't really have traditional lines. He rolled the top 3 equally and gave the 4th line more shifts last night.

Shifts last night:
Moller 19
Penner 19
Poni 18
Simmonds 17

ES ice time last night:
Moller 12:26
Penner 13:12
Poni 9:51 <-- he had over 3 minutes on the PP in the first period which cut his ES time
Simmonds 12:07

... If the Canucks beat the Kings, they will lock up the President's Trophy - so I'd imagine they still have some motivation to try to win.

... Yeah, he had a whole game or so to show it and he didn't light the World on fire, let's give up on that bum.

The point is that he has done more to earn a place on the top line than Moller has, and that's true. On an unrelated note, how many times has a guy been called up from Manchester and immediately inserted on the number one line? Loktionov, King, and Moller - three times? So much for the whole concept of "earning" a spot, and being given a role based on performance and accountability.

Based on the fact that both have been more effective than Penner and Moller. I'd even say Richardson deserves more ice time than the aforementioned.

Penner looks completely apathetic. (I do think he's trying though, he just comes off that way)

Parse should be back anytime. I'd like to see:

Smyth-Lewis-Brown
Ponikarovsky-Stoll-Simmonds
Penner-Richardson-Moller(Preferably Holloway)
Parse-Handzus-Clifford

I believe they already locked up the President's Trophy with last night's win.

... Vancouver's 9 points ahead of Philadelphia (111-102). Philly has 6 games remaining, for 12 possible points. So, Vancouver would need to win against the Kings and the Flyers would need to lose to Atlanta for Vancouver to clinch it on Thursday.

Ahhh..

I was mistaken, they clinched the West last night (not the league).

It doesn't feel like it, but the Kings and Canucks are the two hottest teams in the league right now. Each has won 4 in a row (longest current win streak in the NHL). LA is 8-1-1 in their last ten, while Vancouver is 9-1-0 in their previous 10.

(Canucks are actually 11-1 in their last 12).

Good luck, tomorrow. Games with the Kings have been fun this year, and I know your squad usually is pretty amped up after the two teams faced off in the playoffs last year. I'm a bit afraid Willie is going to light Luongo up -- he seems to be on quite the goal-scoring tear.

Again, Simmonds is getting as much ice time as the others. Simmonds was just skating with Hanzus and Poni. Would you feel better if we called that the 1st line?

How about this:

Poni-Stoll-Simmonds
Smyth-Lewis-Brown
Penner-Handzus-Moller

Feel better?

I don't know why people get so hung up on the line numbers with Terry Murray. He doesn't use traditional lines. Most of the season the Kopitar line was used as the "shut down" line, yet he called the Handzus line the "shut down" line. Murray says one thing and does another during games. Richardson also got some time with Smyth and Brown. Murray said he would rotate players around based on performance.

I think Handzus was the problem with the "1st" line last night, not Penner and Moller. He was behind the play all night, Stoll would be a better choice. Simmonds should be able to score with Stoll and Poni, yet he isn't. Why would playing with Penner and Handzus change anything?

I'm actually pretty disappointed in everyone on this board. I had no idea playoff tickets went on sale until yesterday.

First game back home after a 4 game road trip where they won all 4 games, they just locked up the 1 seed in the West... CLASSIC letdown spot for the Canucks. We need to take advantage of this.

I GUARANTEE you Vancouver will come out flat for at the very least the 1st period tomorrow night. We need a win, LET'S GO BOYS!!
