As I've stated before I go to school at Merrimack. I've seen him play a decent amount. The guy has a lot of talent. He has speed, hands, and good vision. He can dance around defenders just like he did a few times in the loss to Notre Dame (attended that game). The kid has talent but I'd like to see what he can do at the pro level.

He packed up his things and left school a couple days ago. I've had the chance to talk to him a little since I'm also an athlete at Merrimack. He seems like a nice kid. He can speak decent english. He always seems pretty up beat or in a positive mood. Those are some of the good things to know. He works hard. The whole merrimack team worked hard. And he also seems to have recovered pretty nicely from the knee injury he sustained a few weeks back before the regular season ended.

I heard last night he was considering offers from Minnesota and Ottawa, leaning towards Ottawa because they are saying they will let him play in some NHL games towards the end of this year. Also heard OTT is offering $3.75 million and Minnesota is offering $3.25 million but i dont know what the length of the years are so I dont know how that spreads out. Also dont know how true all of that is but I'm pretty sure the info was relayed from him to guys on his team and so on.

Would love to see the rangers sign since I went to school with him. He's a good player. He has the tools to make it.

He's a Frenchie and he's not already ticketed for MTL, shocking.

LOL well I mean he's from Paris. I'm not even sure what his favorite NHL team is. I'm positive I remember seeing him wear some nhl teams hat but I forget who it was.

We're competing with a lot of teams who can give him a legitimate chance to make the NHL roster next fall. I'm not sure the Rangers will throw that out there.

Heck of a player, but I don't see him signing here.

Agreed...Florida, Ottawa and Minny will play him in the NHL next fall, the Rangers won't.

Why couldn't we give him a shot?

Stepan could move to the wing (he's playing on the wing right now).

Zuccarello and Wolski are expendable.

And there's no guarantee Richards signs with us. Even though most of us (myself included) want him to sign here.

The Rangers have shown no hesitation to give young guys a shot if they feel they have the ability.

If he can step right in and make an impact the Rangers should absolutely go after him.

Why do we have to reshuffle the team for a player with a boom or bust potential.

If he was a guarenteed Perry, or Ryan then hell yea, but if he is a flop then it makes it seem pointless. Leave the team as is, and let him go rot in Ottawa. No offense to JagrLeetch Dude.

Theres no offense taken. Its not the end of the world if he isnt a ranger. I just feel he is a very talented player from seeing him play.

He was the rookie of the year last season. He had another great year. He has great vision.

I dont get the boom or bust talk. Where do you get that from? He can develop into a nice NHLer. And I dont get the Perry or Ryan reference. What does that mean? We shouldnt give him a shot if he isnt a guarantee? What college player is a guarantee? Gilroy wasnt. Stepan wasnt.

A couple of the posts were mentioning that, I don't know about the kid so I go by what I read.

My point with the Ryan or Perry reference was that they were pretty much guarenteed to make an impact in the NHL, the same can't be said for this kid.

I was just saying how I don't think he is the type of player you need to clear up space for like SM was talking about. If he wants to play in the NHL now then no I am not in favor of trying to get him, if he was willing to try to earn his spot or be willing to go the the AHL if need be then that's a different story.

Da Costa, who posted his second straight 45-point season during his sophomore campaign this year, is expected to make a decision on where to sign later this week. According to several reports, Ottawa appears to be the front-runner in landing the talented centerman.

Guess both our teams are missing out.

I'm not counting out the Rangers. When Gilroy signed, the Rangers were barely mentioned. Could be the same dynamic here.

I've only seen him play twice on TV this year (loss to ND was 2nd time) but he looked pretty good to me. We'll see.

I know nothing about him except what's posted here. Gilroy & Zuccarello received similar attention in similar situations and haven't exactly set the world on fire.

Same size as Callahan, and he's certainly not passive.

Our team needs skill up front. Especially at the center position. No harm in taking a chance on the kid.

Yes, nationality really decides a players talent level.

Hold up.

First of all I didn't say we should make room for him and "shuffle".

What I said was, why exactly can't he play for the Rangers if they sign him?

If they sign him and feel he can make an impact, be it now or next year, he would be given that opportunity.

I said Wolski and Zuccarello are expendable, because they are. Zuccarello has been scratched and benched for a couple weeks now. And Wolski is consistently being benched.

I said Stepan can play wing. He was playing wing tonight at points in the game.

I never said we NEED to make room for him. But if someone plays their way onto the team, then yea, they're going to make room.

Second, its never a bad thing to stock up on as much talent as you can.

I see no downside to signing another talented player and having more options.

Joe Haggerty a Bruins writer wrote this on twitter

Talked to #bruins source: definite B's interest in Merrimack's #NHL FA Stephane Da Costa. But chances are "slim" at landing coveted prospect

From the thread on the prospects board.

After Sasha Treille in 2008 (who declined the invitation to the rookie camp), that'd be the second time in recent history that the Rangers go after a frenchie. I don't know what to think about Da Costa honestly. As much as I'd like to see a fellow countryman play for the Rangers, where would he fit next season with the big club? Especially if we sign Richards this summer. I wouldn't want this signing to interfere with the chances of Kreider or Thomas to make the team out of camp.
