I'm not sure what he's worth.

Someone said a 2nd and a 4th. Jeez, how many 2nds does Clarke need for 2006? Is he taking a run at Kessel or Frolik, too?

Salary dumps never bring value back in return. You are lucky to get 1/5 of true value for a player (especially when you are bent over a barrel and other teams know it).......

......I should know, I'm a Pens fan!

A second and a fourth is most likely the most we will get considering Roenick's age and more importantly time remaining on his contract.

If that's what we get for Roenick, no one will be complaining.

Clarke is making up for the fact he hasn't used a 2nd round pick in 7 years.

If we get anything for JR, its a bonus because Forsberg>>JR.

Forsberg + Picks >>>JR

Take a 4th for Roenick and call it a day.

There is one other scenario that I believe they could work out (GKJ cover your eyes)

Players in their final year of a cntract can be extended: Have JR sign a one year extension for $1 million

His cap charge would drop from $4.95 to $2.975, saving us $2 million.

Then trading Michael Handzus to LA to re-unite with Pavol Demitra:

Handzus and Tampa's 2nd in 2006 for the L.A. Kings 1st in 2006.

That would save another $2.128 million under the cap ... and due to the lower salary Handzus would have more trade value.

It would be a tight squeeze, but we'd be under the cap, and get more in return.

I just hope no crazy trades will be done. I hear Gagne is on trading block. I hear LA will not trade for JR. If Flyers are over the cap how much is a penalty? Clarke is in a bad position unless he already shipped JR somewhere and we do not know about it. Lets keep our Fingers crossed.

I do not want to see Handzus leave or any other RFA. I hope someone takes a pay cut Brashear or Rico.

I'd ship Roenick and Brashear out with our extra 3rd round pick for a 2nd because this is a massive salary dump, we're going to end up overpaying any team because they know we're in a bad spot.

I'm trusting bobby clarke again and say that he already had a trade lined up for Roenick before officially going to sign Forsberg.

That scnario with the handzeus and brash trade would be awesome. imagine wed keep JR on a line with Fores and Gagne, then we could free up some room on that second line for the youngsters like richards sharp and carter. WOW- the flyers are looking good, here we come cup...I always thought we had a great presence down the middle the past few years but with guys like primeau and foresberg up the middle taking faceoffs!!!!! with the possibilities of JR still being here, carter in the middle too!!!!!aaaaahhhhh im thinking too much, no hockey for a year and then an explosion of transactions like this is enough to make your head explode!

PS:new member here and i need to learn how to quote properly, sorry about the shotty job at the top of the post

Losing JR can't be that bad, he has been thinking retirement for a while now. I'd love to have him in the mix, but he's probably an injury away from calling it a career, so best to move his contract. Hoepfully we can get a bite, but if other teams are smart, they'll stay away.

I don't think we can afford to trade Zeus. He's only being paid some two million dollars, played ALL 82 games, and was last year's 2nd leading scorer. I'd be willing to pay Roenick to go; just don't give up too much and set the Franchise back again.

yes, i think it is clear that Clarkie is intending to make a run for a high HIGH draft pick in the next draft... if not a couple of high draft picks.

i'm ALL for trading Zeus and Brashear to someone, if we get a young wing (read as a cheap wing) back in return, all the better, and keep JR around.

Gags-Forsberg-Roenick is NOT a shabby top line.

now i love Zeus, but he is a UFA next year, yes? he is not going to come cheap... given the hope for development of Carter and Richards... plus the presence of Primeau, Zeus is expendable (as good a player he is). so if something can be worked out to bring JR's cap value down, then deal Zeus and Brashear somewhere (that's 4 M right there), we'd be happy campers... young WINGER, please.

Gags-Forsberg-Roenick
Knuble-Carter-Sharp
Kapenen-Primeau-Radio/Stevenson
Sim-Richards-Stevenson/Radio

i'd go to war with that... a lot is going to depend on Carter being able to step it up at the NHL level, but i think that is a given. that top-line will be filthy, and our PP is going to be nasty with Forsberg in any event.

Taking a 4th for JR would be a coup for Clarke.

He gets something for JR and HE DIDN'T HAVE TO BUYOUT JR. Someone else can pay JR.

What is this you heard Gagne is on the trading block? Where did you hear this?

I would do that, it would give us 2 1st and 3 2nd rounders in next year. could get a hell of a prospect in next years draft.

Would Roenick really take a pay cut in the form of re-negotiation? I know he is a great guy and wants to win the Cup but still that is a lot of money to kiss goodbye. Perhaps people are right that Clarke could offer to extend his contract by a year or two, so that the average goes down and JR still gets his money.

Also, Brash could be moved!

I don't know, the fact that he said he was willing to waive his no trade clause so the Flyers could sign a better player shows he's not a selfish guy - he might do it.

If he is traded, I wouldn't expect much more than a 4th for him.
