Brayden Schenn fake Facebook page causing an uproar
I wasn't going to post about this because when people started going crazy on Facebook and calling Schenn a racist, I knew that there were many impostors on Facebook pretending to be him (or his girlfriend, if you can imagine that), so I didn't pay much attention to it.
However, it seems as though things have gotten out of hand because Brayden has started receiving death threats over racist comments a poster has made, pretending to be him, and I think it sucks that he has been targeted in this way. One of the racist comments made by the fake!Schenn was, "If Indians don't want to pay taxes, then get out of Canada," posted right before their game 3 against the Raiders, and the haters started chiming in.
The Blades lost yesterday, and Schenn was held scoreless, and I think that all of this negative attention caused by the smear campaign might get to Schenn. People seem to be wising up, but...
I took the link from outofrange (hope you don't mind!), and a Saskatoon radio guy had this say about it (it directly downloads a bit of the host's rant in regards to this matter):
The Saskatoon Blades Hockey Club has requested a police investigation.
Quote:
"I just know that last night somebody had come up to our coach before the game and mentioned there was a Facebook page that was allegedly Brayden Schenn's," Blades President Jack Brodsky told CKRM radio Thursday....
"We've talked to city police here and they're looking into it but these things are very difficult to trace and follow. What we'd really like to do is assure everyone that these were not Brayden's comments and Brayden doesn't have those types of feelings to First Nations people, nor anyone else.
When death threats are involved it's potentially serious. This isn't some other stupid nhl bs.
People are ridiculous for believing that was his page in the first place.
He is going to deal with it, so don't act like he won't. It's not easy just ignore something that serious.
Lol @ manning up.
Never said he wouldn't, I simply said people shouldn't and wont feel sorry for him. It comes with being a PRO. You know how many Death Threats Kobe Bryant gets daily ?

I'm pretty sure you should feel bad for anybody who gets Death Threats... Just because they make more money than you doesn't make them less human.
So it's very difficult to trace an e-mail address (a working one is required to create a facebook account...) back to its source according to the Canadian police? Hmmm... OK...

Yup if its through Facebook it should be easy to track. When Zuckerberg gets you to join Facebook they more about you then the FBI. Of course privacy laws probably prohibit Facebook giving information to the FBI until the guy actually try's or kills Schenn.

SHOULDN'T feel sorry for him? I'm sorry, but I do feel from Schenn. ANYONE who gets a death threat I feel sorry, outside of someone like Gadafi. I feel sorry of Bryant as well. It is wrong, it is criminal and anyone who is targetted for no reason by a criminal act should have compassion thrown his way, regardless of his chosen way in life. Just because he decided at five to play hockey and found out he's pretty good at it shouldn't somehow dictate that he is less deserving of human compassion than someone else.
