Player of the Game & The Good, The Bad, The Redden: Game #78 @ New York Islanders

Player of the Game & The Good, The Bad, The Redden

The RulesWhat is the poll for?

You are voting for the player of the game - the one who put forth the most effort, who put the team on his shoulders, who contributed the most.

Do not vote for the player who had the best statistical game just because he had the best statistical game.

This does not mean you should not vote for the player of who had the best statistical game, but do not vote for him just because of that fact.

Who can I vote for?

You may vote for any player who dressed for the game and played at least one shift. If the player you want to vote for is not included in the poll, select "Other" and indicate in your post who you wish to vote for. In the case that I egregiously miss the player who everyone wants to vote for in the poll, I will count the votes in the thread.

What is this "The Good, The Bad, The Redden" nonsense?

It is my twist on the title of the famous spaghetti western movie, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.

Since multiple players may have outstanding games and you can only vote for one player in the poll, this affords you the opportunity to recognize multiple players, or a facet of the team, for their commendable play ("The Good"). This also affords you the opportunity to rip players, or a facet of the team, for their particularly substandard play ("The Bad"). Finally, just as "The Player of the Game" affords you the opportunity to recognize the best, this affords you the opportunity to commend the crème de la crème of the worst, who delivered an atrocious performance, or whose singular (or multiple) bad plays directly led to the the detriment of the team ("The Redden").

Alexander Frolov Memorial Trophy

The Alexander Frolov Memorial Trophy is awarded to the player who most exemplifies the qualities that Alex brought to the ice game in and game out. Most notable was his talent for wraparounds. Thusly, this award is given to the player who has the most wraparound attempts throughout the game.

The award tonight goes to Sean Avery, with 1 wraparound attempt against New York.

My head is so full of ****.

Can't expect them to beat Philadelphia, Boston will want revenge, Atlanta and NJ are winnable.

Guess we'll see.

Good thing the #1 sports team on my list got things done today against a good Tigers team.

The Rangers... FAIL

but seriously, WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON, where does the problem lie? And don't tell me it's Sather because this team looked phenomenal early in the year.

Seriously bro? They already clinched their playoff spot when they got blown out 10-3. Howard and Datsyuk out with injury as well. The Red Wings are allowed to take a game off; they earned it by clinching their playoff spot early. The Rangers, on the other hand, didn't EARN that luxury and have 5 goals in their last 5 games, so it's not just one game either. It would be 4 goals in the last 5 if not for that gimme goal here at the end, and we'd be on a 4 or 5 game losing streak right now if it weren't for Hank playing in beast mode the last few games.
Yes, absolutely seriously. You're making the SAME POINT I made before- the only reason this loss blows is because we're clinging to a PO spot. All teams lose to teams they should beat. "Taking a game off" is BS because the Wings got spanked, plain and simple. Im not saying they're not a better team, but this loss would not be nearly as much a pain if we were comfortably in the POs.

Every single player was worse then Redden. They were Ryan Hollweg in his last season with the Rangers bad. Yelling from Torts would simply not be enough of a punishment. He should skate these pathetic athletes until they're puking. Worst game of the season maybe. And at the worst possible time.

Only the ****ing Rangers.

There is no reason why "other" should not win this POTG vote.....because no one on this team deserves a vote

The Good: This Game is over

The not his fault: Lundqvist

The Bad: The entire team

The Redden: Torts, the PP, the lack of heart, The nonsense at the end of the game, some posters on this board, and the fact we don't deserve to be in the playoffs if we can't win big games like tonight.

The Kamensky: That nothing will change, I doubt this team snaps out of this funk now and Torts and Sather will be back next season like nothing ever happened.

Good: Dubi and Gabby racked up 29 pims for my fantasy team.
Bad: Everything. This PP is pathetic. Sorry, i don't think Mccabe changed this PP around like some people think.
Redden: Torts. Torts. Torts.

Have you ever played a competitive sport in your life? You get spanked when you don't show up prepared. You get clobbered like this when you come out flat. You don't just come out flying, giving 100% and get embarrassed like that. The Rangers DIDN'T come out flying, didn't come out to play 100%, didn't play their best game... heck, didn't even play THEIR game. And they needed to. Detroit didn't need to come out flying. I'm not suggesting they got together on the plane and said "hey guys, let's mail this one in" but the point is, they didn't need the game and so if their effort wasn't 110% it's acceptable because they earned the comfort of being able to blow a game and not sweat it. The Rangers are supposed to be coming out FLYING. We didn't even have our first shot in this game until nearly 10 minutes had passed. Not unlike the Buffalo game. We haven't been coming out flying and it hasn't just been one game. We have struggled to score ONE goal per game for the last FIVE games when we have needed EVERY ONE OF THEM. If Henrik hadn't had a super-human stretch where he allowed one goal in three games, we would be on a five game losing streak. Why is that difficult for you to understand?

Make that 126 total PIMs, with 3 additional 10 minute misconducts added.

Rangers have another back to back set coming up, vs two home playoff seeds in Boston and Philadelphia. The Rangers will pretty much have to take at least one of those two games.

It's not Sather's fault, and I don't know why people constantly blame Torts too. I understand him getting heat when he like juggles, but he has to try and get something going. I don't know why this season seemed to be split in half when it came to heart. The first half we were so happy because "they were winning games they would have lost last year", then the All-Star break reared it's ugly head, and every other goal scored on us deflected off of a Ranger. We go on a crazy good run, let just come up short, and if anything, our PP has gotten a tad better, nothing had changed with Torts' style or Sather's dealings. The problem is the overall inconsistency of the players, and yes, this could have been a throwaway game if it was in November or December, but with 4 games to go, it just can't happen.

I also apologize if anyone was offended by what I was saying in the GDT. It just makes it infinitely more frustrating to watch that game while reading what that GDT was becoming. (and probably also the board until our next win.)
