Last time I looked, only one of those players was not Montreal property after the trade deadline last year. Did they resign players? Yes. But they only added MD from that list.

I was comparing players who started the season in 2003-2004 to the one's that will be replacing them...

The players I mentionned are an upgrade on the one's departed, the same one's that helped us attain the playoffs that year...

You are very wrong.

Kovalev was acquired by Montreal (for Balej and a 2nd if I am not mistaken), at the trade deadline. He lacked scoring at the end of the regular season (3 pts in 12 games), but had a good playoffs for the Habs.....

Rosters are fluid throughout the year. People aren't acting like Toronto never had Leech. Does that mean their defense is still the same? No. Go by the team that finished the year. That is the most recent incarnation of a team......and prospects are already property of the team. They were not added (unless drafted, signed or traded for this offseason).

Prospects like Perezhogin, Hossa, Hainsey, Higgins, Plekanec, weren't added to the organization, I agree, but they've been added to the team, which makes them better IMO, then the team which was bounced out of the playoffs...Maybe i'm crazy, but I think...

Radek Bonk is an upgrade overJoe Juneau and/or Yannick Perreault
Komisarek/Dandenault is an upgrade over Quintal/Brisebois (debatable maybe?)
Perezhogin is an upgrade over Dackell

I think you misunderstood what I was trying to say, I think the Habs are a better team today, and by alot, then the team that was swept in 4 games by the lightning, it's a mix of things, UFA signings (Kovalev, Dandenault), substractions (Quintal, Juneau, Perreault, Dackell), and by promotions from within (Perezhogin, Hainsey, Hossa, Higgins, Plekanec)

Signing UFA's isin't the only way to improve a hockey club

Put it this way...

Zednik-Koivu-Kovalev
Perezhogin-Ribeiro-Ryder
Bulis-Bonk-Hossa
Bégin-Plekanec-????
Dagenais, Sundstrom

Markov-Rivet
Souray-Dandenault
Hainsey-Komisarek
Streit

is a whole lot better than...

Zednik-Koivu-Kovalev
Dagenais-Ribeiro-Ryder
Bulis-Juneau-Dackell
Bégin-Dowd-Langdon

Markov-Rivet
Souray-Quintal
Bouillon-Brisebois

Is it not?

*BTW...that's not neccessarily the lineup that the Habs will employ this year, just what I want...

Gotta love watching Leaf fans flame each other!

With their salary structure and the new cap the Leafs have to be a worse team this year. Here's a list of their signed players and their salaries

Mats Sundin $6.84 million
Owen Nolan Status in dispute $5,627,000
Ed Belfour $4.56 million
Bryan McCabe $3.458 million
Tomas Kaberle $2.28 million
Ken Klee $1.9 million
Darcy Tucker $1.596 million
Jeff O'Neill Acquired in trade from Carolina $1.5 million
Matt Stajan $805,600
9 Players (1 Salary in Dispute) $28,566,600

Only O'Neill is being paid what he's worth, (e.g. would you rather have Naslund at $6 Million or Sundin at $6.84 million?)

I can't imagine any other team taking any of these guys in a trade at these salaries unless like Roenick, Toronto throws a draft pick in as well.
