Florida / Ottawa Proposal

(If we'd be able to get him signed to an extension) what would it take to get Chara?

Also, did he get along well with Jacques?

We've got plenty of youth that would be inexpensive and trading Chara would help you guys resign Havlat and others who are UFA next year (if i'm correct).

To start things off... how about Bouwmeester for Chara?

Only untouchable is Luongo, everyone else is pretty much fair game.

Meh, Luongo seems to be the only one we would want back for someone as rare as Chara

The new system means that the Sens have to make their cup run this year, so they are not going to trade their #1 defencemen for a prospects or young player. To land Chara you'd have to give up at least another 1st or 2nd defenceman plus a first line leftwinger (probably a power forward) - all while making sure that their salaries don't put Ottawa over the cap. Florida cannot produce either of those things. Ottawa are not going to give their hard earned chance at the cup to Florida.

Counter offer

Ottawa has had an interest in Olli Jokinen ... and with its abundance of RW, could make a deal for Havlat.

haha, the only thing worthwhile florida has is Luongo or Jokinen, maybe bouwmeester but we really don't need him. You'd have to giveup Luongo for a crack at Chara.

You gotta be kidding me. To give up Chara, wed need like Luongo, Bowmeester, Nathan Horton, and Ollie in return. Wed throw in Hasek I guess.

i was thinking about this, and although we are in no position to trade chara, redden for JBo makes sense to me. It keeps us from losing a player next summer, gives us some room to make a deal this summer. Gives florida a proven number one. If they really were offering JBo for Pronger it makes sense. Ottawa might have to throw in something else, but i think its close. Add in Martins love affair with Redden, and its something worth thinking about.

I would trade Redden for Bouwmeester right now if it were on the table.

WTF? How about we just leave it at the fact that both sides think they have the more valuable player and therefore can't be trading partners.

Hmmm, I was thinking that yeah.... Chara is a bit better than Redden. But in this climate, it is becoming very apparent that we need to sign whoever is committed to the team.
Hopefully, one signs a long term deal by the trade deadline and if the season goes freakishly wrong... trade the other.

Yeah, get Chara and Hossa nailed long term. Let Havlat and Redden go for trades or what-not.

Riiiiight giving up a whole core for a guy you could possibly lose to free agency next season.

Well at least everyone else made more sense, and i'd definatelly be interested in Redden for Bouwmeester.

I'm surprised Ottawa fans are willing to settle for Bouw alone after the deal that St. Louis got for Pronger. I don't see Redden bein worth much less in a deal and the Blues got a proven top pairing defenseman plus two highly thought of prospects, that were possibly goin to be fighting for ice time with the parent club this year. Even with free agency hangin over the Sens' head, Redden doesn't carry the price tag that Pronger was. In fact, he looks to cost about half as Pronger was qualified for.

It's a matter of trying to sign Hossa & Chara and Redden being the odd man out for cap reasons. He'll probally get a lot more than 4 mil judging the offers some of these older washed up D are getting.

Redden does appear to be the odd man out. This gives us a proven player back, who is young and wont get expensive for a few years. It also gives ottawa room to pick up another player for the season. Boumeester would be a welcome addition to our team, and would not be a straight trade for the future, Bo could step right into our top 4 and there would be a ton less pressure on him. Granted Pronger cost an arm and a leg, i still think if anything, ottawa throws in a prospect
