Briere sat the game out with soreness in his groin, according to a club source. General manager Paul Holmgren said it was “precautionary” move to ensure Briere is healthy for the playoffs.
Betts was injured in the second period. He has a lower body injury. He was limping after the game.
“It’s probably going to keep him out for a few days,” Holmgren said of Betts.
Briere and Betts may not play Friday night in Buffalo, Holmgren said. Both are likely out for Tuesday’s game in Ottawa.
Holmgren said he wants to be cautious going into the playoffs.
“Absolutely,” he said. “You know, the idea is to get in. We’re in. Obviously, we still want to finish as high as possible but I don’t think you can be short sighted and push when guys are banged up.
“That’s like Danny [Briere], there’s nothing really serious with Danny but we just want to keep him out now. With Blair [Betts], I think we’ll have a better idea tomorrow, but nothing is going to keep him out of the playoffs. When we get to Friday’s game, is he an option? Well, we will probably err on the side of caution with him too.”
Briere had not missed a game this season for injury or illness, although he missed three games in early November for a suspension.

Testwuide seems to be in pretty good form at the moment. He's not a replacement for Betts however, I guess. Who knows though. Wellwood looked really good in his three games and Holmstrom looked pretty decent when he was up. Kalinski has looked solid in previous seasons. None of them has done too much in the AHL though (same can be said about Nödl).
VOORHEES, N.J. — As the injuries build up for the Flyers, opportunity is bred for members of the Phantoms. Ben Holmstrom was on the ice with the Flyers Monday morning at the team’s practice.
With news Sunday that Danny Briere and Blair Betts would both miss time, the Flyers have brought another Phantom up to the big leagues with only three games remaining in the regular season. Flyers GM Paul Holmgren said on Sunday that Betts’ injury is “probably going to keep him out for a few days,” but Betts was on the ice Monday showing no ill effects.
Briere is expected back Friday.
Holmstrom, 24, is called up for the second time this season. He played one game on March 3 against Toronto. He logged 8 minutes, 6 seconds of ice time and went 30 percent on faceoffs.
Holmstrom has 16 goals 21 assists in 75 games for the Phantoms.
From Tim P.:
Neither Betts nor Briere expected to play in OTT; as of now, Betts is on ice but is supposed to be examined today for lower body inj.
... Ben Holmstrom been recalled. He'll play tomorrow in OTT
yeah, he's the go-to betts replacement in that he kills penalties fairly well. nodl and carcillo are interchangable in your lines. i wouldn't be surprised to see hartnell and leino are shuffled around while briere is out.
They had him at center last time, I think they will put him there again.
Pretty much like the person above me had except you have Holmstrom at center. Carcillo shouldnt be in the top 9. I feel bad for Richie playing with Versteeg and Carcillo . Give him JVR who has looked good, and put Nodl with Giroux-Zherdev
To be honest I havent liked betts on the pk all year, he is slow and never seems to break up plays/clear the zone... the other team always gets ample zone time when he is on the ice. I like betts but maybe some young legs on the pp would be better
