If you want to talk about a fans "right" to boo or whatever, fine I guess. But do you actually think that helps? Isn't the point of the whole thing to see the team win? How does booing help that at all?

It doesn't help at all. I always thought a dead silent arena sent a better message anyway.

Philly, Boston, Toronto, etc... They boo just as much, if not MORE than we do. Are they better on the road?

How does cheering help at all? Makes the team feel good about themselves? Meh. How does going to the games help at all?

Booing shows that the crowd is unhappy with the performance. There was no booing the rest of that game. I would understand Vinny more if the fans booed after the second- guess what? They got a standing ovation for playing good hockey.

I don't agree with it but Vinny just comes off cold here.

Good point, Philly was booing every single play yesterday. If they went offsides, boo. If we took our timeout, boo. If they missed a chance, boo.

Jesus, sounded like Montreal at times.

edit: Rangers fans at MSG are very forgiving. Boos will quickly turn to cheers and to encouragement and excitement if they let it happen (i.e. play decently or at least show some effort). Poster above me makes a good point about us giving a standing-O at the end of the 2nd period even though the first half of the 2nd blew.

The booing at the Garden is way overblown in the first place. The fans boo after bad periods, that's really it. That ridiculous thing with Roszival which was disgusting comes to mind, but that's the only example of over the top booing I can think of.

And Dubinsky says-

Good for Vinny he didn't care we were cheering him on.

Good crowd energy is contagious. Home-court, home-field (in football) and home-ice advantages are not myths.

Our fans are fine. Don't want to get booed, Vinny? Have the team show up earlier than the midway point of the game.

I heard a LGR chant between the first and second goals. It's not as if the Garden crowd was hostile from the get-go. Vinny needs to remember we boo you because we want to cheer you.

Um fans cheering certainly helps. I don't know if you've ever played a sport in your life in front of a large home crowd but the fans cheering gets your adrenaline through the roof. You literally have more energy and play harder with the fans going nuts, you develop a swag

And the crowd was nothing but positive after it looked like the team was finally starting to get things together. The only booing was at the VERY END of the period- LGR chants were going on through the entire rest of the period.

It's a two way street. If the team doesn't care, why should the fans?

The energy was through the roof during the 1st period, until it became apparent the Rangers didn't feel like playing good hockey.

What happened after we started playing good was easily one of the most encouraging crowd contributions i've ever seen in my life. The Garden was deafening. Vinny makes it sound like we were booing him after he scored.

So they didn't care? That's why they were down early?

That's meant to be a generalization to combat Vinny's sweeping "well the crowd was hating us why should we care about them?"

And it sure looked like they didn't care, though i'll just chalk it up to a bad period of hockey. That was a horrendous first period effort and it took that for them to turn on the jets.

I wasn't addressing this game in specific, but more your question "how does cheering help at all?"

You think their inconsistency shows bad coaching, I say the fact that this team has the rest of the Eastern Conference hoping they play someone else in the playoffs shows just how good a job Torts has done this year.
I think he has done a good job too.
I'm not talking about benching, benching is a sporadic strategy as a wakeup call, it is not education. My views may be different than yours. I truly think that all forwards should be following through to the net, it should be mostly automatic unless other circumstances mean you have to turn around.
