CD is a UFA this year. With the addition of Bryzgalov/Vokoun, Roli as backup, Tokarski as the potential future #1 and Nagle already signed there is no room for CD.

Yeah I meant in case Rolo will indeed stay for another year as #1. This year's list is a lot longer: http://www.capgeek.com/free_agents.p...G&fa_type_id=2

We need a back-up who can play 20-30 games and be reliable and satisfied with that role. I think Biron is a UFA, I'd like to take a run at him if he is. Though, he's never played outside NY and Pennsylvania in his career, so getting him to come South might not work, Rangers seemed to like him alot too.

What about a guy like Peter Budaj? Or even Emery?
Nice to hear Roli would like to stay, and if he continues to show he has 'it' and does well in the playoffs he would still be a quality starter. He's not the type that needs to be pushed (he pushes himself enough) and it seems to be working out well so far with him as starter and a backup who can give the team a quality start every 3-4 games and be satisfied with that role.

Biron signed a 2 year deal with NYR, he still has a year left. Budaj I've seen a fair amount, not overly impressed with his ability to hold a game. I haven't seen him much this year, but from the stats it doesn't look like he's having a great year. Emery's still a bit of a wildcard - he's done well in a small sample size considering all that's happened to him.

Gerber's a cheap possibility. He's been in the AHL most of the season but has played well with the Oilers when called up.

As of right now, it doesn't sound like Yzerman is looking to pay for a goalie in the Bryzgalov/Vokoun range. Guess we'll have to see how Roli does in the playoffs but then again, one year older and he could start to fade somewhere along the line so I'd only sign him one year at a time...

Vokoun said he'd take a discount to get a shot at the Cup but how much of one is unknown. If he'd go down below $4m, why not? It'd barely be a raise over Rolly, Vokoun is 7 years younger and a little bit better as well.

Wouldn't have a problem with that if he takes a pay cut....but he's gonna have a number of interested parties.

Rolo-san is definitely a good goalie and he never quits on a play - I've been a fan of him for a while now. Having said that, Vokoun would be a better acquisition. His stats are comparable, and he probably would take a cut from the the 4-4.5/yr range if you give him a longer term deal.

He may even go for something around 3.5 cap hit if the contract can be front loaded with a longer term (i.e. 4-5 years) and he signs before he turns 35 (July 2). That way, if Vokoun chooses to retire before the contract expires it comes off the cap.

Not trolling here, I've noticed some bolts fans aren't really impressed with Roli. Believe me, pass your judgement on him during his playoff games. He sure looked good tonight. I just love Roli and hope he gives you guys a run that I know he is capable off.

He's been solid for us no doubt. That said, I'm not a big fan of bringing him back for another season.

It's a big decision. Will be interesting to see how Yzerman prioritizes the team's needs after Stamkos is re-signed. Offense? Defense? Goaltender?

As has been mentioned, with Bryzgalov, Vokoun or Rinne there is no guarantee a) that they will be available come July 1 and b) they will come cheaply. Of the three, I see Vokoun as the most likely to be available come July 1. If Phoenix lets Bryzgalov reach free-agency, it will be a 100% financial decision, not a hockey one.
Is Nashville really willing to roll with Lindback next season? The day will come when they part ways with Rinne, but I don't think that time is now.

For a slew of reasons, Roloson is the best choice, IMO. The practical choice, especially if you believe that committing at least an extra $2-3 million to the goaltending will only yield at best only marginal improvement at that position. Is that Yzerman's perspective? Guess we'll find out.

I'd rather sign Stamkos to an appropriate deal and improve the defense some more rather than trying to reel in a big fish goalie. Re-sign Brewer and Roli and improve the defense with 1 or 2 new additions and I'd be satisified.

The cap hits of both Rolli and Smith total 4.5M, I can see going after Brysgalov for around the same hit and producing an upgrade. Rolli is getting up there and its just a matter of time when those reflexes begin to fail ever so slightly, so why not upgrade to a younger model. There are some decent backups on the FA list ~1M.
What happens if Rolli begins to fade next yr half way through the season-doesn't that in essence kill the season for the whole team?

If the Coyotes do relocate to Winnipeg (which I don't think they will) Bryzgalov doesn't seem interested.

Thomas, Rinne and Luongo named Vezina finalists.

At least it wouldn't artificially inflate the asking price on Vokoun or Bryzgalov now.

Right now: Roloson's our man.

I agree at the present Rolli is the man, but one has to look at upgrading the positions each and every year. You can't win the cup with the present goaltending, d and 3&4 line competitiveness.

What are the chances that SFY & co even ponder talking to the Isles again about a trade, since they tolled Nabokov? And if they did would you guys even want him?

Nabokov or rather his abilities have become a big questionmark. He wasn't very good in the KHL (possibly for personal reasons though, family unhappy, etc) and also in last year's playoffs but more importantly he hasn't played for almost a year. Not sure he's the solution.

They didn't seem that interested in Nabokov before he sat out almost an entire year and refused to report to NYI. I doubt they would be more interested now.
