I have to disagree with that considering the skill hes shown lately and the numbers he was putting up. The effort for sure is infectious, but Callahan was taking his game to another level he really was. You can see he is finding ways to get the puck into areas with what is becoming a patented spin around pass. That pass he made to Dubinsky was all-star skill level IMO. Im not discounting that.
While i agree with your overall statement, i think we have to recognize that Callahan simply means more to this team than we think in a number of ways, and this injury is probably close enough to a death-blow as you can get.

Well look... this isn't worse than the Pens losing Crosby and Malkin obviously. And they are still fighting, playing to their strengths. Callahan isn't a no talent slob. But he's not an elite level talent. He's one of the teams better talents for sure. And he is the poster boy for what the team is about. But they managed without him. And they'll just have to do it again by committee. Maybe something clicked in Wolski's enigmatic brain yesterday and he goes on one of his patented 20 game tears. Maybe Avery ups his game. Maybe we're due for a Christensen hot streak. Maybe Dubinsky is due for some lucky bounces. Maybe some unexpected fortune accompanies this awful news. We'll just have to watch and hope.

Damn it's a tough loss to be sure, but as has been said, we found some success without him and with the exception of Hank, no single injury truly breaks this season for us. Hopefully Drury can come back and contribute like we know he wants to. At the very least, we know this team will give it everything they've got to win for Cally
I think Gilroy on wing is a good idea, but they should have tried it earlier. Torts won't use his 4th line, so it will be good to have an insurance D out there in case anything happens during a game.
As far as dressing Gilroy and "playing" him at wing, it's not a terrible play. This gives Tortorella flexibility in the event of an injury to the D (which is not farfetched, considering how many shots are blocked,) and Torts will not exactly be rolling 4 lines during this time of year. He always goes with a shorter bench, especially on D, late in games. This provides some insurance. I see nothing wrong with it.

It does confirm the ankle break, but it doesn't say how bad, and how long he'll be out. Not saying he's probably not out for the rest of the season, but I just find it so odd that the Rangers are taking so long to say anything.
I dont think there is anybody on here who doesnt appreciate Callahan, but I will never forget that this kid gave up his body during the most crucial stage of the most critical game of the season to date.
To ensure his team gets in, he sacrificed his season.
If that isnt a rallying cry, i dont know what is. This team is exactly that -- a team. Losing Cally will somewhat make them stronger.
