Whiskey Tango Foxtrot.
This couldn't possibly get any stupider.

Then I remembered Leighton's been playing for the Phantoms for the past while now, and doing quite well so we know he is in shape. One could argue that the team wants to give him a new dose of the NHL so that he is prepared for the higher skill level, but it isn't like he's never played in the NHL before.

Or that was thrown in there so that others think he is a medical liability and don't pick him up (though we prob would in their situation given our history...ahem Walker).

Sucks for Bouch. He's proved more than capable as a backup and we are going to bench him for MICHAEL LEIGHTON!!!?!?!

OMG - I hope this story hits NHL.com, TSN.ca and everywhere else. If the Flyers leak back issues, teams will stay away. This is brilliant. I follow the phantoms beat writer and I haven't heard a thing about a Leighton back issue in months. He has been awesome and playing every game.

Come on Bruce Garrioch. Break this story wide open about Leightons pending back surgery this offseason. Come on Bruce - I'll be your damn source. I know Claude Giroux, that should fit as a "source with ties to the team".

He's spent his entire career doing well in the AHL, then being awful in the NHL. I don't know why Homer expects anything different.

Exactly! I mean, fine they have each had a bad game here and there but so has the entire team...it's not like a failed team effort is due to the goalie. Why the blow to the goaltenders? Because that's exactly what this is.

This, I disagree with. Leighton isn't the problem today....it is the cap hit for next year.

You disagree that Leighton has spent his career as an NHL disappointment?

Typically one has to come with high expectations to be considered a disappointment.

Not really, getting multiple chances to be a starting goalie in the NHL and failing every time is pretty disappointing lol

Holmgren's quote regarding this move and the status of Bobrovsky and Boucher:

Quote:
“They both know this is strictly a depth thing for us in the playoffs,” Holmgren said. “It’s not an issue with those guys. They both knew it was coming.”

if anything, they should thank boucher and bob for keeping most of their losses close

Has there ever been an offseason where us couch dwelling fans (and in this case "Homer Haters") were more right?

My mind is still blown. I'm still fuming.

Ugh, I can't believe we're going through this with another player. I swear Holmgren still has no idea what dead cap space is.

Correct me if I'm wrong but how is it that now at the most important time of the year the net won't be crowded at the practice facility like it was when they sent him down and said they had to b/c the goalies weren't getting the propper practice time??? This whole situation reeks of lies and FAIL.....

if it's just a "body", why not re-call Backlund instead? that way we dont risk having dead cap-space from someone claiming Leighton. If one of goalies goes down, then you re-call leighton

i know we're all very upset and trying to cope with this most disgusting news, but let's try to be positive for at least a second.

has anyone seen Leighton play in Adirondack? i've heard nothing but good things lately. i know it's the AHL and that's basically his calling in life, but if we can lock up the division before friday i don't think it's so terrible to see how he holds up against a (presumingly) playoff-bound team like buffalo.

but, this is all assuming nobody claims him. in which case, **** the world, **** holmgren, and goodbye leino.

Leighton's been a 'AAAA' player pretty much his whole career. Almost too good for the AHL, but never good enough to be a regular in the NHL.
