If it's true... no brainer for mucks. I'd do it.

Mike O'Connell was just on WEEI in Boston at 10:30am this morning and pretty much quashed any trade rumours. A number of the Bruins' moves were made specifically with Thornton in mind (i.e. signing Murray long term), so to turn around and trade Thornton simply wouldn't make sense.

Methinks the rumour mill peeps are making **** up.

I don't buy it for a minute, but if I were trying to pull off a blockbuster trade right now, I think I'd build it around Havlat and Volchenkov. This team will have enough trouble keeping our core together that we don't need the kinds of players that will threaten to hold out every time their contract expires. I love both players, but don't think either is very loyal to the organization and have no doubt that they would both leave for a better offer without hesitation. Thus, I'd be tempted to try to land a big fish with them while we still can, and leave another team to figure out how to satisfy their inflated salary demands.

I agree that both players are expendable given the ease of their willingness to hold out and/or play elsewhere.

I don't think Thornton is the answer. As great as he is, we have another # 1 centre for much cheaper. Joe T. simply isn't cost-effective enough for a team like Ottawa which has a lot of depth to take care of at pretty much all positions.

Teams with one-line offenses like Calgary and Vancouver can throw gobs of money at superstar players.

If they know Joe won't come back after next year they will take that deal and run for the door. They risk losing him for nothing.
that's why its entirely possible.

Agreed. Besides, bringing in a guy like Thorton for big bucks would probably send the wrong message to guys like Spezza and Hossa who may be poised to take over the leadership of the team. It is probably best to hold on to Havlat and Volchenkov for a cup run and then move them for youth if necessary if it means we have a chance of holding Redden, Chara and Hossa.

Bleh, we haven't had any real news so fake news starts circulating.

Martin Prusek and Denis Hamel has been the big action in the Nation's Capital.

Thorntons just way too expensive. Hed be wanting close to 6 mil if not then cap max, which we just cant afford. Lets just leave that money for guys who deserve it, liek Spezza, Hossa, and Chara.

Thornton's agent, JP Barry, was on WEEI previously and remarked that the Bruins are in discussions with Thornton over a long term deal. O'Connell also stated this morning that they will be meeting with Thornton in the next little while to hammer out a deal. And to top this off, Murray has been working Thornton to stay.

Really, it would be a complete surprise for Thornton to NOT sign a 3-4 yr deal in the $6.5M range. Boston has done everything to keep him (sign Murray, sign players to make Boston a contender, etc.), so the ball is in his court.

Quite frankly, it's a slow news day in the nations capital, so why not make **** up? These are totally unsubstantiated rumours. Most likely Garrioch started these over his 5 breakfast burritos.

Unbelievable rumor started by the 13th clone of Dave (whoever Dave is, and why there are at least 14 of them I don't know).

Apparently the outlandishness of the trade rumor mongering is directly proportional to the number of clones doing the prognosticating.

Seriously though.....Thornton going to a divisional rival. That alone should put a boot to any thoughts of Thornton being traded here.

ya boston will for sure send their number one player to a team in the same division they play 8 times a year, and team that will be competing with them for a playoff position, makes sense

Considering that the vast majority of Sens fans believe it's absolutely ridiculous, given the financial constraints of the team and the current team environment in Ottawa, I wouldn't worry too much, B's fans.

We're not Leaf fans after all.

Totally off topic TexSen, but that avatar is BRILLIANT!

Love the Office (not the American one.)

I can almost hear Garreth and Tim singing background on "Free Love Freeway"!

A little while later, see a senorita,
She’s caught a flat trying to make it home,
She says “Por favor, can you pump me up?”
I say “Muchos gracias, adios. Bye Bye.”

Free love on the freelove freeway,
The love is free and the freeway’s long
I got some hot love on the hotlove highway,
Ain't going home ‘cause my baby's gone.

They could afford it if it was Redden going the other way.

Have you heard the full studio version Gervais cut of that song with Noel Gallagher (Oasis)?

Damn thing rocks!
