Seeing what Khabi is making per year for the next four years, Biron looks like a hell of a bargain at his QO price. He could garner a decent return if Regier decides to trade him for some D. I like Biron, but in today's salary cap world, Noronen and Miller, at their cost, looks like a better way to go.

Agreed, Dig. Personally, I'd like to see them deal 2 goalies, Biron and one other. Then find the remaining guy a cheap, older backup... essensa-style.

We could make out really well in that situation.

Ta,
While a guy like Prusek was still available, I would have been all over trading Noronen and Biron. However, I'm not sure how much I'd want to give up two and replace them with an "Essensa" type. If you roll the dice with one and they fail then you are pretty much stuck with overpaying for another No. 1 like Chicago did for Khabi or you need to trade away other assets to obtain one through trade. If Valent was a lot closer to being NHL ready, maybe I'd take the chance, but right now we have no other options to go to if the one guy we keep is a bust.

Besides, we have plenty enough forwards to throw in with a keeper in order to work a deal.

I love Valent but I still think he's a few years away...though he might be AHL-ready soon. Noronen has too much value with his current salary and his talent level to trade away unless we got an incredible return for him (if TB offered Kubina straight up, or OTT offered Redden, etc. I'd have to say bye bye Mika), but that's highly unlikely.

Unless a guy like Irbe or Tugnutt took ~$500k, I can't see anyone else that would be a legit NHL backup. I still don't think Miller is ready to play more than the 10 games he needs to this year, and with our current goaltender situation, I think it'd be good to leave him in the AHL for as long as possible.

Don't know why Montreal would want Biron, but you can start with Markov

Realistically though, maybe Plekanec + a mid round pick?

A 3rd line of Roy - Plekanec - Afinogenov would be quite awesome and have gobs of speed and scoring potential, along with a decent amount of defensive responsibility. Most people don't associate Maxim with defene, but I think he's at least a somewhat responsible player in his own zone.

Hell no.

Komisarek is vastly overrated.A 1st is too much, yet alone Biron.

Biron and a 4th for Markov.

Oh man, that'd never fly. I think the only way we get Markov is if we add a ridiculously good player with Biron, and I don't think that's going to happen.

But I'd agree... I'd do Biron + a 3rd/4th for Komisarek, but Biron + a 1st is way too much to give up for a guy who has 5 pts in the NHL and is a career -2 on a pretty good team.

Ta,
Sabres should only pay Biron half his salary as he only performs for half the season.

How much are we paying Biron anyways? I'm guessing somewhere from $1.9 - $2.2m

The first two maybe, but Pittsburgh will probably start Fleury this season like they did two seasons ago. That might make sense for a mid season trade though.

Well with the moves Edmonton is making I have trouble believing they want to go in with a Conklin/Markkanen double team (great to drudge up that set of proposals again).

LA might be a possibility to.

Or maybe someone we'd never guess.

The point is... he's signed and ready to play. Right now we have half a team. QO's /= contracts. Therefore, the fewer problems we have signing players, the happier I am, regardless of who they are. I don't want to see any issues with players returning to the team. No holdouts or complaining.

Right now, Grier, Pyatt and Biron are my favorite players. It doesn't matter to me, right now, that all 3 are slightly overpaid.

All good points Dig, but my thinking is based on most everyone believing both Noronen and Miller being hampered by not being given the reins. I don't live up there so I haven't seen them play recently.

At some point trust and confidence is going to have to be shown for them to take the next step. Kiprusoff is a perfect example of this.

If Miller's ready, removing Noronen and Biron from the situation leaves him no margin for error. We then know what he's capable of. Keeping one around gives him an excuse and could be a distraction.

Who does LA have currently? Nobody I believe.

Markkanen was just signed this afternoon. Vancouver is still looking for a goalie... or, at least, they should be. Detroit is as well, Holland's stated that Legace is not #1 material. Honestly, I don't think Aebischer is a #1 either.

Ta,

LA has Mathieu Garon but my understanding is he wasn't as impressive as they'd hoped he'd be in Manchester last year. Cechmanek is mercifully (for the sport of hockey) a FA and though I loved playing against him, hockey is better for him not being in the NHL any more.

I did not know that about Holland's stance on Legace, if true then I think I'd be looking at them strongly. I don't know for who, but there certainly appears to be viability there.

No offense, but my impression is Colorado doesn't share your same view on Aebischer and I'd expect him to be top dog again this year.

Maybe there'll be some trading partners after all!!

None taken. I'm not sold on Aebisher is all, and I don't see him as much better than Biron. Then again, I'm not sold on many goalies beyond Brodeur, Khabibulin and Kiprusoff, to be honest.

Honestly, I'd love to see Marty play behind the defense that was in Colorado last year and see what kind of numbers he put up. We really are amazingly hard on our own players.

And, yes, like you, I'm hoping that there are some willing dance partners for one of our goalies (preferably two of them).
