Iron Mike Weber appreciation

Mike Weber leads the team with 150 hits in just 56 games played. Over an 82 game season that projects out to be 223 hits, which would rank him 3rd among NHL defense men this season.

Shot blocking? Yeah he's got that ability too, to the tune of 96 which is 3rd most on the team. That would be 141 over a 82 game pace, which would put him in the top 30 among defense men.

Hitting and blocking shot, that's his bread and butter. But how about the improved STRONG play around his net, and wiser more precise passing! He's getting better and better, as is the entire young Buffalo blue line!

Time for A LOT of playoff experience. And I mean like 20+ games of it!

I've been waiting for over a year for this guy! I love Weber! He's going to be a rock for the Sabres for years.

He just needs to tone down the penalties. But yeah, I'd totally consider a Weber jersey if he signed longterm.

I said last year that Weber and Myers should eventually be our top pair. I still stand by this sentiment.

I don't see Weber as a top pairing, minute eating defenseman to put with Myers (to me Sekera is more likely to do better in that role). I see him as a Jay McKee-esque guy who (as he continues to develop) can be put into a shutdown role with PK time. All we got to do is find the Warrener to slot next to Weber (maybe in a few years McNabb?)

(few years down the road)
Sekera-Myers
Leopold/other vet-Pysyk
Weber-McNabb

I'd think that at least one of Schiestel and Brennan is going to make it in the NHL, as well. Both had very good campaigns in their second professional seasons.

#7 D and/or trade bait (as is Butler). It would be a very, very young D if they were regulars.

I hope Weber remembers how to check when the playoffs arrive.

Said it back in January... Mike Weber is one of the key reasons we turned this ship around. His emergence solidified the 2nd pair, taking some pressure off of Myers... who, not coincidentally IMHO, then picked his game up too.

His physical play is getting under his opponent's skin. He's no Kaleta, but he's making a name for himself.
