At least they were blatant about it.

You don't have to go lower than pick #50 to know the list is terrible.

The best part is the description. Average college stats, but the WJC vaulted him up the list. What an overrated tournament for Coyle. He beat up on the weak teams, and was average against any team that showed a pulse.

I'm just waiting for Carter Ashton to show up in the top 10. That would be rich.

Kreider was #23. McDonagh was #50. Thomas, I believe was unranked.

I have no problem with Thomas being unranked. He's still very much an unknown commodity.

But McDonagh at 50 shows just how horrendous this list is. It's outright pathetic. Where has the editing of this site gone? It's unbelievable that the powers that be would even allow this pathetic excuse for a list to be released.

A list like this just reinforces my belief that visiting other parts of the site is a waste of time. I often find a lot of the opinion out side our board irrelevant to the point of it's being non-credible.

It all comes down to what the Rangers do on the ice. Nothing else matters....but even there it gets wacky. In listening to the post game coverage from the B's game, it was almost all about how the B's blew it, which is fine and credible to an extent. There was virtually no discussion about how the Rangers fought their way back and won.

Still watching Jonsie and Milbury having to explain the Rangers "improbable" victory was a treat

I will savor that and it is saved on my DVR.

in many ways its like automobiles.

you read that the mustang is better than the camaro. the f150 is better than the silverado. the fusion better than the impala. the next review says the opposite is true.

its all subjective opinions and anecdotal in nature. you compare the measurables and make assumptions. its an inexact science.

same with this top 50 list.

take it for what it is. nothing more.

Do we draft another PP QB D this year? Who knows what's going to happen with MDZ. Of course, we still need scoring. I don't know how deep this draft is supposed to be.

We have no glaring holes in our depth chart (well apart from a goalie, but we'll hopefully have Ludnqvist for nearly another decade) so I think there's no point in drafting for needs in the first round. We should go strictly BPA.

So McIlrath signed an ATO, Bourque already signed a contract, anyone have an idea why neither Werek nor Horak have been signed to at least an ATO yet?

No, he was eliminated a week ago. His teammates have already signed ATO's which is why I was getting a little annoyed. He must be hurt, there is no reason he wouldn't be there.

And since when did Bourque sign an ATO? I hadn't heard anything.
Bourque signed an ELC, that's what I meant. He is still playing, so no ATO yet. But horak and werek have signed neither which is why I'm wondering

Rangers management needs to knock off this "drafting for need" stuff and just pick the best player available. That is why our first rounders usually suck and the players from later rounds (when they always go BPA) tend to be better.

Or they saw big potential in McIlrath. NHL scouts don't have the same rankings as the ISS and other places, McIlrath could have ranked higher on a couple NHL teams list than what the general public projected him to be. There is nothing wrong with going for a reach either, sure they could trade down and pick him later, but sometimes that backfires.

BPA even in the first round isn't really a clear thing. And beyond the 2nd round there is no BPA anymore whatsoever.

There is no clear-cut way of defining Best Pick Available.... It's not a concrete term by any means...

is the BPA the player with the highest ceiling?
is the BPA the player most likely to reach his potential independent of his overall ceiling?
is the BPA the player with the lowest bust potential?
is the BPA the most skilled player at the time of the draft?

It's not that clear.... 18 year olds have different development curves so the most skilled player at the time of the draft isn't necessarily the draft pick with the highest ceiling/potential.

Carl Hagelin for example... In an interview with a friend of his from Sweden, his friend says Carl had a growth spurt when he was 19 and his legs just got massive and that's when his skating really kicked into high gear.... No doubt Hagelin (5th rounder) would have been a late 1st/early 2nd round pick if the scouts had any inkling that he would develop into the forward that he is today.
