I'm going to be past that the day this city moves on in another direction as far as baseball is concerned, like having a AAA team. Not a freakin team in the Cam-Am league....a team that is the closest to a pro team you can get. The day we're attached to a major league baseball team....I'm rooting for them and move on from my Expos-Nats relation....Until then....go Jays, boo Nats.
I understand how you feel, but personally, I could never root for the Jays...

If this is true then I'm ABSOLUTELY for it and it may even help me return to baseball and become a Jays fan. I'd kill to watch another game in Olympic Stadium.

Just the fact that they're even talking about it is making me think.

I don't think it's a slap in the face, had he said no chance we come there maybe but the fact that he is willing is to get even more support. I would go watch a couple of games, still wish someone would build an outdoor stadium

Wow, Montreal has really become a minor league city...

It's like when the Habs go play in Quebec City or other small towns in order to expand their fan base. Having only one professional sport, a mayor with no ambition, and no descent world class stadium what other choice does Montreal have than to host a few games of the raptors, jays, and perhaps of a future Toronto NFL team.

Pretty sad if you ask me.

Personally, if I want to see the Jays or Raptors I'll go to Toronto.

As a big baseball fan, I just want to see some games without having to roadtrip to Boston. I'd absolutely go to this.

I think it would be great to give Montreal a chance to show everybody that they still love baseball. You need to get through this process to be able to get back into baseball.

My guess is the Jays and the Boston Red Sox get together and play their final spring training game with full lineup in Montreal sooner or later. Makes sense for both teams, since it's close to their city. They have a chance to play in front of a great crowd, so a great last preparation for their club right before the season, and the dollars that come with a 30000+ crowd for a spring training game. Then, if it's a success, they might try to book a 2 or 3 games series in the future. But that might just be a pipe dream

I think it would have to be a regular season series. I don't think anybody would go to a spring training game here.

I think people would go if the media gets in it. There was 22 000+ at the Bell for a Raptors-Knicks preseason game and 45000+ to see AC Milan at the Big O for an exhibition.

What a sad thread.

I guess we, as a province, should first successfully bring the Nordiques back and make the Impact an MLS success.

Not a slap in the face at all. Jays president doesn't need to do this at all.

I would go. For sure.

I would attend all the Jays games in Montreal. From a Montreal perspective it's definitely not a slap in the face. Though I'm not sure how Jays fans would see it, although if it's just for say 3 games a year it wouldn't be like when the Expos played 20 games in Puerto Rico.

That being said, I don't really see it happening though, they probably got rid of all the baseball stuff when the Expos left, so they'd have to get a new turf, new fences, new netting, have the holes for the dirt again, and so on, all that just for a few games. I just don't think it would be practical unfortunately. The cables to attach the backstop and the foul poles to the roof are still there though. And I'm not sure if they would have good crowds...

I don't really think there would be much of an issue getting Olympic Stadium ready to host a baseball game. I know they donated the FieldTurf (to Vancouver I think?), but I'm quite sure they still have the crappy rock-hard turf that was used prior to their final season. Are you sure they got rid of the outfield wall? I took a tour of the stadium last summer just to see what it was like and I think I remember seeing at least part of it.

Regardless, I think it's doable for a relatively small amount of money.

I'm all for the Jays in Montreal. That's how it starts. Pack the stadium, show that there's interest, and– who knows. Get the ball rolling. It's a long shot, but I'm desperately looking for a reason to follow baseball.

Amen.

I still have a deep resentment towards the people running Major League Baseball, but I have reached the point where I could consider becoming a fan again if I was able to make the necessary emotional connection with a team. I just wrote a letter to Blue Jays president Paul Beeston expressing my incredible support for this idea and I really hope this gives me the opportunity to become a fan again.

I was a diehard Spos fan until the day they left, and have been diehard for the Jays since 2006. Jays are a great young team, so if you haven't already hop on board!

I have several choice words for MLB for having ended my childhood.
Seriously, that league is run by morons. They make profit off of the success of like, 7 teams, and the rest have no realistic shot at the World Series. Yeah, the Rangers made the World Series last year, but guaranteed, you play that season a hundred times over, it wouldn't have happened.
The whole Loria/Samson/Selig conspiracy still gets to me to this day.

You don't have to convince me. Selig, Loria, Samson, Brochu and his consortium...all crooked slimeballs. That whole Expos-Marlins-Red Sox swap was disgustingly illegal. Just thinking about the way everything went down makes my blood boil.

You're 100% right about the economics of baseball. I think it was just two years ago that Alex Rodriguez made more than the entire Florida Marlins roster (which of course is heavily subsidized by revenue sharing). Makes me really sad to think about the 2003 season though...those Expos were every bit as good as the Marlins team that won the World Series. MLB just wouldn't allow it by refusing September call-ups (as much an emotional hit as anything) and then the San Juan "homestand" right when the team was catching fire.

Grrrr, some things you just don't get over.
