I wonder how much ice time useless Shannon will take away from Da Costa or any other youngster that actually has a future with the team.

Come on now...

Shannon has been on fire lately, and contributes more offence than anybody other than Spezza. Da Costa doesn't move his feet out there. He needs to earn his ice time, not by scoring goals or putting up numbers, but by simply showing that he wants to play. As fans, we'd all like to see him play a bit more, but Da Costa will benefit from lessons like these. He's learning what he needs to improve upon to try and gain a roster spot next season.

As for Wick, he hasn't done anything in any game he's played in the NHL. Clouston gave him an opportunity last game to play with skilled players, and he didn't take advantage of it. He's 25 years old, and hasn't shown that he's an NHL calibre player, let alone a good one.

Well maybe that's my pro-tank side being harsh on Shannon's contributions, but with Melnyk's comments on Da Costa being a legit top-six forward next year, I kind of expect him to get more than 6 minutes of ice time, especially since these games are next to meaningless.

If you've listened to Clouston's interviews, you know that he doesn't share your opinion. He's trying to win every game. Perhaps to show everybody that he's a good coach after all, perhaps to give the players a reason to train hard this Summer. The point is, he's certainly not going to compromise the teams recent winning ways just for the sake of observing one player. It's the same reason he played Anderson almost every game after we acquired him. It's not his job to tank, it's his job to win.

Keep in mind about two months ago on the FAN590 Melnyk called Butler an "elite player". Last week Tim Murray was on the team1200 and he wasn't even sure Da Costa would play center at the NHL level. I think by now we're all attuned to the ways of Melnyk and thus consume his words with a truck of salt.

How many times have you seen the victim of a "severe concussion" resume skating so quickly?

Gonna miss Carkner this game. Too fun watching him push around the Habs with no one able to stop him.

It's always a long off-season when your team don't make the playoffs. It sucks because it took until late February for this team to be enjoyable to watch.

Will be an interesting off-season though with some changes to both the coaching staff and the main roster...A lot of positives going into next season and a lot of question marks for the team to address.

You don't predict Subban to score every game do you? If we give up a 4 on 3 in OT and pay 0 attention to his shot...ya he may score if he takes 3-5 shots.
