yep...
the new system may be thrilling for some and primarily for nhl commentators.
is it fair and the best way to set up the playoffs? thats certainly up for debate, i for one cant stand the loser point system.

WB Loffen

The Garden should be rocking tonight...lets hope the boys can get off to a quick start and kill any thoughts the Thrash might have of playing spoilers.

If they get a decent lead Torts has to roll 4 lines and let some of these guys get a blow...IMO thats why AA & Dubi seem to be invisible at times.

LGR! Sack up Boys!

Im still shocked at the way Det laid down yesterday. IF they lose tonight and carolina beats atlanta tomorrow well be tied going into saturday and we all know how this plays out. que nbc footage of last years philly game that we got to enjoy over and over and over again last week....Gee it sure wouldve been nice if they showed up for either the buffalo or islander games.

settle in ladies and gents here comes another heartbreaker.
If that happens the Rangers will be in 9th because Carolina may have another ROW. Tied in points, yes, but Carolina would then control their own destiny. ITs imperative the Rangers get a ROW tonight or at least a point to keep their head above water.

Anyone have the time to give us all the possible scenarios for the last two games?

The short version - win 2 games.

Carolina's max point total is 93.

With the Rangers at 91 they need 3 points to clinch. 1-0-1 clinches a berth. So getting a point tonight isnt the end of the world. 2 would be preferable though.

I'll try.

Rangers go 2-0-0, we make it no matter what Carolina does.
Rangers go 1-0-1, we make it no matter what Carolina does.
Rangers go 1-1-0, we make it if Carolina loses one game (OT or Regulation).
Rangers go 0-0-2, we make it if Carolina loses one game (OT or Regulation).
Rangers go 0-1-1, we make it if Carolina doesn't pick up at least three points.
Rangers go 0-2-0, we make it if Carolina doesn't pick up at least two points.

That's only relevant though if Carolina wins both of their remaining games in the shootout. If they get one more ROW they'll have more than us anyway should we be tied in points. So I'd say it's not that important how they win tonight, but that they win at all. Those two points would be huge, as it puts the pressure back on the Canes and gives us a small margin of error in the Devils game.

The key here is I think if we go 0-2 and Carolina ties us in points with 1-1 we lose because of the tiebreaker.

Btw time to update that signature of yours? I mean, most of them cars have already corssed the finish line
I can't change it after that last win!

That would upset the positive flow of mojo causing an intergalactic imbalance in the dark matter which, in turn, would lead to a change in the earth's magnetic field resulting in an abnormal amount of negative ions concentrating in and around New York thereby, negatively charging the air molecules which would then infiltrate the Rangers players lungs through the inhalation of that negatively charged air which would then be transferred to the bloodstream which would send concentrated negative mojo coursing through their veins and directly into the brain which converts the negative mojo into doubt and mental mistakes.

Didn't you pay attention in science class?

Maybe I'm mistaken, but I believe you also have to factor in Buffalo here. If they tank their games NYR can still get in at their expense... so, relative to Carolina the above is true, but don't forget the Buffalo side of things too... They have PHI and CBJ I believe

Or do I have that wrong?

Watch the game completely naked, because you jinxed yourself by posting that today. Im serious.

Not only that, but now that your routine revolves completely around where you watch the game - now you have to go see it at a local bar as well.

Lol..oh great, thanks a lot!

My ritual involves wardrobe..not location..and it was in a bar, don't underestimate me.. if I thought it would get them a win, I just might strip down!

After all, what's the worse that can happen...besides the wife having to bail me out?

Exactly. We'll lose the tiebreaker no matter what unless the Canes get two SO wins and we get one reg. win. It doesn't matter if we win against ATL in a SO and lose against the devs in a SO, we'll still get in.

Buf has to lose both games in regulation and we have to win one for us to get in instead of them. If we get more points then who cares because we beat out Carolina anyway so who cares about Buffalo.

So to make the playoffs we need:
3 points
1 reg win, and 2 SO Carolina wins
1 reg/SO win, and 2 Buffalo losses in reg.

Carolina is going to win out.

I have a Yankee and Ranger double header planned. It feels like twenty degrees at the Stadium today. Then they wonder why the crowds are low. The balls will flying to NJ if they get caught up in the right wind stream. Rangers game after the Yankee game.
