Timonen? He was either a Flyer after Richards was made captain or just before. They could have given him the C if it was while Richards was an A but they didn't. If he came in after Richards was wearing the C, it's too late.

Briere? Yes, let's give it to someone who routinely dives or takes stupid stick infraction penalties. That's leadership. Also, he's really only been effective for one period while he has been a Flyer and that was in last year's playoffs. He was the pre-Carter whipping boy before that.

You don't strip the C from a young captain who has won at every level and give it to guys who are 30 somethings. In fact if anything, 30 something captains tend to either retire or hand the C over to someone younger.
really? He's won nothing at the only level I truly care about...the NHL

That's kind of silly. I agree with not taking much with the numbers a player puts up at a lower level, but winning pedigree is something that's never really questioned. You have to work extremely hard to be in those situations, and you don't fall into them by mere happenstance. Even if you would like to argue that, Richards constantly being in a position to win throughout his playing career from the time he was a teenager would suggest it's not a fluke.

Richards is in his 6th NHL season and has already been to the Stanley Cup Final.

Gretzky didn't win a championship until his 6th full professional season.
Messier, 5th season
Yzerman, 14th season
Lemieux, 7th season
Bourque, 23rd season
Sakic, 8th season

These are some of the best leaders of the past generation; I wonder how much whining there would have been during the early stages of their careers, had there been internet forums then.

The amount of **** Richards takes from the Flyers fanbase is incredible.

See...I started typing out a similar response...but then I decided not to. Felt like it would be wasted effort.

But yes...winning pedigree and the culture of winning are things that help you succeed at higher and better levels of competition.

Case in point, Team BC winning gold at the Canada Winter Games. Their last pump up video before the final was a compilation of photos of championships every one of those kids had won. It reminded them that they are winners...proven winners. It gave them something to draw on when Que tied the game up in the third.

Great post!

As for Holmgren, it's not like he does this 10 times a year...he picks his spots...I like it!...it worked in the past when he took some slackers for 'a ride' and it'll work now!

GO FLYERS GO!

Should probably just trade Cartsie and Richie because they're too busy banging hot chicks to score 50 goals per game. Yelling at them won't work, Paul. Vagina will always win that war.

I bet you he might be threatening some people just to get them motivated, even if they may be empty ones.

Oh my God are you serious? He was kick ass in the playoffs last year. In the final, his line and Toews' line shut each other down, not to mention the fact he was exhausted from having played the highest number of games of any other forward in the league due to the Olympics. Training camp, Olympic tryout camp, regular season, a very hard played, pressure packed Olympics and the playoffs. It boggles my mind that you and so many others are blaming him or the guy with 2 broken feet for losing to the Hawks when the problem was the sieve in net.

Anyone with half a brain was impressed with him, except some of you who just don't seem to get it. What the hell more could he have done in the final round?

So can we finally trade Richards and Carter, and hopefully soon JVR and Giroux? No leadership or heart in any of them. They all suck and should be paid league minimum if they want to stay on this team.

Leighton deserves the 'C' really. We should petition the league/flyers to make that happen

If they gave Zherdev the icetime that Carter wastes, then he'd easily have 40 goals. He's always had that talent. He just needs to be given the chance.

What does that mean? Are you saying he can get to 60 goals... because that's doable once he gets into his prime. IF he plays for a good team.
