I just can't believe what happened with Gaborik. The 09-10 Gabby showed up for like 3 or 4 games this season.

richter stepped up for big games, he didn't implode. Henrik was paid before he earned anything for this team.

I'll criticize him, but i know he deserves better. he deserves a team that can score in front of him.

It was mere seconds after the first goal so you were probably still in a state of shock.

Not when we've been in playoff contention since October 29th and blow it during the last month of the season.

That's a pretty big phat fail. IMO.

Same. Notice how many greasy goals he scored around the net last season. He's way too passive this year. He ain't right.

That was certainly one of my worst experiences at the garden. How they could come out with that effort on such an important game is simply beyond me. I knew Callahan was a very important part of this team...but they just looked lost out there tonight.

I agree with you here. The one big difference is that Richter could go in to god mode in big games at will, where with Henrik it seems like he doesn't have that extra level where you just know NOTHING is getting by him.

I completely agree that Sather has made some bad signings and some bad decisions. Boogaard, Brashear, yeah, BAD.

However, 95% of fans thought Gomez and Drury were going to be superstars.

Sather rightfully should be hung out to dry for the FA signings in retrospect, but what are the odds that they ALL turned out to be bad?

And, technically what's going on now is a slow rebuild. The problem is that this team does not have a game breaker. Gaborik is supposed to be, but he hasn't been this year.

Exactly. Anything short of making the playoffs is a colossal collapse and failure.

Yes, the kids played great and DA FUCHA IS STILL BRIGHT (i say it sarcastically but I do believe it), but after this season not making the playoffs would just be horrendous.

But he didn't make any mistakes today. He rarely does in big games. You can't expect a shutout every night. If every goal was on the goalie defensemen wouldn't exist.

Pretty sickening thaat some of you show no emotion and would consider missikng the playoffs ok. We've been in a damn playoff position all ****ing season and that can be reversed within a matter of days. I feel like absolute ****.

I'll take #35 during the playoffs.

Take a look at the standings. An 8th place finish doesn't tell the whole story. Tampa's in 5th place with 99 points. A whopping 8 points ahead of us. FLA is in last, with 70 points. We've been able to maintain a borderline playoff team, while breaking in how many rookies in our line-up? And we've been hit with some pretty bad injuries -- key injuries.

Again, I don't understand how anyone can assume Torts underachieved this year with the group in front of him.

I can't agree because I HAVE seen Hank do that. I didn't watch Mike in his prime, but comparing him to Hank is unfair because Mike had Messier and Leetch infront of him. This team's success is ON Hank's back, it was definitely more spread out in the cup run.

With the 94 team in front of either, I take Hank.

it's huge and should cost Torts and his comatose assistant their jobs.

playoff contention all season long and flop in game 81? torts should have been screaming at them to get them going, but he acts like it doesn't matter...

I think you're forgetting the second half of Richter's career.

Lundqvist > Richter

You do make some legitimate points about Hank, and he DOES give up softies, but none were his fault tonight.

Stupid to nitpick about Lundqvist when there are other players far more deserving of blame.
