I like what I'm seeing from the vets. Cammy, Gio and Gomez seemed to have step it up the last 3-4 games to maybe get rdy for the post-season? I really think we can expect something good outta them. Can't wait for the PO to start!
If he doesn't come up halfway decent in steel country, he'll be a wonderful case study in just how far $7 million a year will take you in Hamilton, Ontario.
It doesn't matter to me what he does in the playoffs, floating through the regular season is not acceptable and a terrible example for young players. Team leader? His contract is an embarassment, his effort an insult.
He has looked pretty good the last little while, though. Well, at times. But we take what we can get. The feist last night was good. The results weren't really there.
If he's on top of his game in the playoffs, AND if that is packaged with the Habs winning a playoff round (at this point, beating any of our potential opponents is going to count as another surprising upset and feather in the cap of a generally sucessful overall season), then... I will be ready to forgive Gomez for his crappy regular season.
fingers crossed that he finds some way to step up his production while delivering consistent two-way hockey in the playoffs.
Pleks hasn't been very effective since returning from injury (i'm betting he came back too soon and is likely still suffering, as most good players do at this time of year), and Eller & DD are both playoff rookies... if ever there was a time for Gomez to "earn his paycheck" or at the very least do what he was brought in here to do, now is the time.
if he doesn't, or can't, then hopefully PG will "get it" and do everything humanely possible to move him in the offseason.
for the time being, I'm rooting for him to earn his keep... go scotty go!
Do you want to wait until after the game on Saturday to pay up on your bet (user name). Or should I go ahead and change it now?
coolasGOMEZ, I like the looks of that.
Wow... just... wow
this is not fair!!!
There are civil wars in parts of the world going on right now with innocent people dying because of this EXACT kind of abuse of power that you are threatening me with!!!!
( )
Since the all star break:
Gomez: 1 G, 10 A =11 pts
DD: 5 g, 12 A = 17 pts
You tell me who's been a better center!
At the core of the bet, I really was under the impression that it was about production!!!

Haha, your sense of humour rocks.
In fairness though, the bet wasn't who would be the better player. It was who would be the 2nd line center at the end of the regular season. Desharnais has no doubt put up better numbers, but minutes per game (since Cammy returned from his injury) shows me that Martin feels that Gomez is his #2.
Since I'm a fair guy, I'll call this a draw. I just wanted to rub it in a little bit.
He's been much better lately.. that's a good sign for the playoffs.
Better lately? last night in the first period he took a shot at Anderson, the rebound came back towards him and he did not move, he just stood there and an Ottawa player skated in and picked up the rebound and Gomez watched him skate away with the puck. The guy does not go to the net, makes to many blind passes and is a huge waste of space and cap space.

For a few months.
I have an interesting conundrum for you. What if the Habs go one better than last year and make it to the SC finals but Gomez plays worse than he has in this regular season, will you still be in a forgiving mood?
Laugh all you want, the Rangers did it with Redden and it worked out well.
Thats $7.3 mil they can spend on other UFAs this summer, ie. much needed offense, and if he gets picked up off waivers (which he wont), so be it. At worse if they need him back they only pay half his salary, right? You can get 2 or even 3 decent players with $7.3 mil, and Desharnais is already better than Gomez at this point anyway. I dont see how they could go wrong here.

Thoughts?
No he isnt. The 7.3 would be useful but what would that say to future UFA's that the habs talk to? if you dont produce we'll toss you in the trash?
