SensReporter9 mins Melnyk also undercuts his assertion that he leaves hockey decisions up to hockey ops. Told Murray to make the call to Nashville re: Fisher.

This scares me tremendously. Dave Cameron is our new coach whether we like it or not.

Furthermore, he is now filling up all Carrie's closets and spare rooms with his stuff (according to her interview)

Was Murray or Muckler the GM when he was here?

Some of you people try to look way too deep into these things. Quit trying to find fault in everything and getting all worked up over nothing.

You should have been fans back in the Rod Bryden days, not knowing if the team would survive another season, praying for Nelson "Spezza's Family Friend" Peltz to buy the team and rename them the Ottawa Snapples.

As far as I'm concerned Melnyk can say whatever he wants, whenever he wants. Only what he does (or doesn't do) matters.
I care because this is MY team and I was supporting it and putting money into it BEFORE Mr. Barbados walked into town. I care because I've seen nothing but a circus for the past five years and that isn't likely to change.

I was a fan in the Bryden days:
We had excellent coaching
We had a fast, young, exciting team
We had an excellent GM that took care of business
Roy Mlakar was a bang-up ambassador for the team

As unstable as it was OFF the ice, the team hit its high-water mark ON the ice during that era. It was incredible classy and not a shred of drama.

P.S. Snapple is the bomb, I would have loved to have Snapple as a beverage choice at SBP.

Good. Fisher did enough in this community that he deserved it. I'm glad we did the classy thing and took care of him instead of trying to squeeze an extra second rounder from another team.
IT"S A BUSINESS.
You don't control where you end up and you don't get to pick how it all works out.
The team needs to do what's best for the future of its assets and team.
The Ottawa Senators will still be here even if Fisher gets traded to the Islanders or Kings. Players will sign here because ownership will overpay to get them here and give then NTC.

Enough of the country-club attitude.
Treat players as numbers, contracts and assets.
Letting emotion and loyalty and so on interfere is very, very, very bad.

New Rule: When referring to the Euge, you must use an exclamation point at the end of his name.

Please change the name of the thread to "Melnyk! to address the media..."

he emphasized it. Italics would have been more appropriate, you're right.

So she's saying that Melnyk may be directly responsible for their marital discord?

This, thanks for thinking with your head.

Honestly, what more do you guys think anyone was willing to offer for Fisher? Alot? Give me a break.

Yeah thats a great situation. It's worked out so well for so many teams in the past!
Whatever, this is a simple concept and in many ways it WAS a business move, I've not seen you do much more than kvetch on this site so I won't even attempt to get through to you here.

I gave him a nibble and then pulled back, leaving him to starve from the lack of valid yet combatible opinions and yearn for it more than ever due to the small taste that still lingers in his trollish mouth.

Although I don't think he's a troll tbh, just really really in a different "terrestrial realm" than I am

Melnyk really needs to keep quiet. Fisher, I get that...but this "I don't get involved in hockey ops....."I told Bryan to call Nashville".

What was the purpose of today's press conference when Eugene had nothing new to say? He hasn't even met with Bryan yet he keeps putting out mixed information.

In spite of his affirmations that he doesn't get involved in hockey ops, every time he opens his mouth Melnyk provides more examples of his interfering in hockey operations (re.. trades, signings, coaching). As part of his reasons for wanting a 2 or 3 year commitment from his GM he said (paraphrased) ie... sign free agents, assess prospects, sign a "new" coach!. Yesterday and again today when asked to comment on Clouston he begged off saying it was a hockey ops area. If Cameron becomes the head coach it will only confirm yet again that Melnyk is much too involved in the details of the day to day operation of the team.

Some Advice:
Melnyk has to learn to stay in the background and when he does stick his nose in hockey ops do it discreetly and don't look for pats on the back from the fans and media (Fisher trade) which only reveals you're meddling and will only alienate fans. In spite of the bad season the prospects and signings have created positive vibes around the team. Don't blow it Eugene!

And Murray just drafted Peltz on his own, too

Although the kid ripped one over Lehner's glove on a breakaway during the Prospects scrimmage last summer...

NO ffs I don't want Dave Cameron as our coach. Watching him fail to do anything as Russia owned our juniors was awful. We've already suffered through a whole bunch of sketchy coaches, why the hell won't we hire someone with a little more experience?

I mean if he comes in and does a good job, I'll gladly eat my words, but the guy looked completely impotent as Team Canada's coach in the finals.

He must be on the "taxi squad" because he did see 1 exhibition and 1 regular season game this year. He scored a goal in the exh and went 1g 1a for +2 in the reg. Total mystery.

And then there's this:
