Zucc has sucked in the shootout lately. He always tries the same move.

Someone has to score. Maybe Zuc can come up play with some heart and get a big Win

regardless of what happens 2nite they have to win their last game.

Correction: He has sucked in his last two shootouts. Why? Because Tortorella used him in the shootout being stone cold after sitting the whole third periode + overtime.

To me itīs plain stupid to call up Zuccarello just to bench him, and wait for a shootout. It would have been better for him to play in Hartford with about 20 mins ice time, producing points and building confidence.

I choose to believe that Torts sees him as a replacement for Callahan, and gives him plenty of minutes. Let him also play 4 on 4 in OT if it goes there.

Oh I agree, he shouldn't be called up just to play 6-7 mins and then be used in the shootout. If he's here, he should be getting at least 14-15 minutes a game.

It's not the move that's the problem. It's the execution of it. Even Lundy said he had trouble stopping MZA on that move, even when he knew it was coming. If you look at his last couple of penalty shots, he's looked sloppy.

Keep in mind that his latest shootout tries have been after him sitting almost all of the thrid period and OT.

I'm meh on this callup, though. Maybe he can help on the power play, maybe he can create some offense or maybe he'll keep sucking. As long as we get the two points and Carolina doesn't win out, I'm happy.

I think Avery is out after last night pitiful play. Drury will not be used tomorrow. He could have played in non binding game only.

A shootout win might not be enough. If Carolina were to win in a shootout tonight, we'll clinch it with a regulation or ot win.

Zucc is not in PO picture - too tiny for the physical mess that will unfold. Shootout win is what we may need tomorrow. He is only for that game. After that he will continue AHL playoffs and later will play for Norway.

My bad. I thought we were tied head-to-head, but forgot about those points to carolina from our otw and sow.

I think Rangers need 2 points to have a chance. nothing less. Carolina will at least get 1 point tonight.

That is totally besides the point. What i am trying to say is that if he is so incredibly focused on being where he is supposed to be, when he is supposed to be there, and do what he is supposed to do, taken from the system the Rangers uses, that is going to negatively impact his play because he has no freedom..no opportunity to do the unexpected and so on if you understand what i mean ?

That does not mean that he should be running around like an idiot doing what he wants to do, im just saying that with the speed of NHL hockey, he might have his hands full just trying to follow the system to the letter. Which is where skating training comes in, so he can be that much faster, and maybe gain an extra half second in various instances

not if they win in regulation against Tampa. we're tied at 34. If they were to win tonight in Atlanta AND in Tampa and we win in regulation, then we win that tie breaker. Otherwise, if they go 1 regulation win, 1 SO win, then they will win the tie breaker because they have more points in head to head match ups. I think we have 2 OT wins against them and they have 2 regulation wins and 2 OTL so 6 points versus our 4.

Christensen does the same thing, doesn't seem to be a problem.

Can't believe we're using the "He was on the bench all game" excuse for not succeeding in a shootout.

Well, you do not have to be rocket scientist to understand that the body becomes more flexible when you have been in physical activity. It is also easier to handle the mental pressure. In other sports where the athlete is sitting on the bench, he has the ability to stay warm, which is not possible for a hockey player.

Not exactly true. In the shootout against Ottowa, all the shootout-specialists (Zucc, W2, EC) had terrible shots. Zuccs and Christensen sat all third period. Wolksi had 3 minutes in third. Of course itīs not an excuse, but it for sure does not help not having much ice time during the game. If Zucca is recalled mainly to be used in a shootout, and will be sitting most of the game, and the game goes to OT, I hope that Torts at least will give him 2-3 minutes in OT. More space to use his skills 4 on 4, and gets the body warm to a shootout.

Anyways, IF todays game comes down to a shootout, it will be a tremendous pressure on the young rookie Zuccarello... I surely hope he succeeds with his shot and donīt turn out to be the scapegoat who gets blamed for Rangers not going to the playoffs.

Then, on the other hand I will feel truly sorry for him IF he becomes the hero who wins the game for the Rangers, Carolina looses, and he gets sent straight back to the Whale....

IMO this last game is fully comparable to a playoff game. The players will play their ***** off; the Rangers to clinch, the Devils to stop their rivals. This is for sure like a game 7 in a PO. It will be interesting to see how Zucca will be used. If he gets big minuts, plays a good game, produces points, and maybe even gets the winner in a shootout, then he is good enought to stay with the Rangers in the playoffs.

In my opinion.

3 min something and one assist.
Just enough to make Drury's comeback a success

I guess Zuccarellos OT-goal against Carolina (his first NHL goal) was the most important goal for NYR this season ?

Wy isnīt Zucc sent down yet? I would imagine he would have been sent down immediately after last nights game to get ready for the Whaleīs last game of the season tonight? Thereīs no doubt whatsoever that he was called up just for a potential shootout.

Maybe this means Torts wants to use him against Washington, who probably suits Zuccarello better than Philly and Bruins?

Didn't the Whales clinch theire PO spot before Rangers did ?

If so he's likely to be sent down today, after celebrating with the Rangers...

If no, then he might be there vs the caps...

But with no shoot out's and limited ice time yesterday I don't see him playing nhl play of hockey this season....there's always next season...

will be interesting to see if Zuke starts in game 1. I would say yes since its the caps and they don't really have a pest no? Avery will get in at some pt however. Especially if EC starts to stink
