I would like to see him replaced with Cole next season because once Coles deal is up JVR will be looking for a big contract probably. I wouldn't be against resigning him though because he does seem to be well liked. I just don't like his diving and his afraid of physical contact.
At the same time that I wouldn't mind seeing him resigned, I wouldn't sacrifice any of our other players (i.e. Carle, Coburn, Hartnell, Meszaros) to keep him. So, if the cap goes up enough and he for some reason signs a cheap contract, I'd be more than ok with that. Otherwise, I think we should look for a replacement.
i would rather move versteeg right now if we need cap space
Agreed dude. Leino can give the puck away 1 million times, with that said he only has 36 giveaways this season and 38 takeaways, so I don't think your point holds much merit as there are 7 players on the team with more and 2 of them being forwards (Richards and Giroux). The guy plays a solid 2 way game, is a great passer and actually puts effort forth game in and game out, and 52 points isn't bad either. I'd take Leino over Hartnell, Versteeg, and Zherdev any day. If Carter didn't have such value i'd say I'd take Leino over him too because that dude lacks heart and urgency.
ive felt this way for a while, but i thought that most of the people here were in love with him.
im honestly surprised he hasnt gotten himself injured yet. his head is down a lot, hes not too quick of a skater to avoid hits, and he weighs like 170 soaking wet. surprised no one has drilled him yet.
I don't hate Leino let me make that clear to start. For me though, if the Flyers don't re-sign him, I honestly wouldn't care. Now, I know he's played poorly of late, but it's not the reason I'm making this thread....i've felt this way about Leino since the beginning of the year.
Yes Leino is a nice player but for me he turns the puck over too damn much and holds onto it way too long. Too many times he seems to just take his good old time with the puck, only to trap himself and turn it over. Of course he is a decent player, but like I said, if the Flyers don't re-sign him I really wouldn't be too mad.
How do you feel about Leino?
No reason to be defensive. Leino is a nice player but he's not a key core player, he's a solid complimentary player. We need players like him to help round out our top 9. Nodl is a decent guy but Leino >>>> Nodl. If Leino can be resigned for 2.5 mil or less then he's a valuable asset to have. If he believes (and gets from another team) that he's worth 3 mil or more then he's not worth holding on to from the Flyers POV. He's not great but he's also not worthless (not saying that you are saying he is worthless or anything).
He is back with the flyers next year, we were told that Holmer went to Leino and asked him about Versteeg, thus the trade was made. Say what you want about the flyers but they are loyal to their players, he has a verbal agreement with this team. He is a good player and a soild contributor, yes he could shoot more but he is a very useful player on this team. He is going to turn it up, and watch out he is one of the players that makes this team so dangerous, he is not as respected as giroux or briere, but while the other teams are matching against them, that is when he can exploit you.
I believe Leino has deals on the table from the Flyers for various years and cap hits once the re-signature period begins again.
Ville Leino can make more space out of a little space than any Flyer player on this team....He can stick handle in a phone booth, very skilled play maker and strong on the puck etc....If the price is right i hope Homer gets him signed.
