Gotta tell ya, I am a big fan of Batardo. Anyone know the long term plans for this guy (closer? starter? mrp?)?

Great game by the bullpen tonight. They really came through. Also, it's nice to see Howard on one of his tears so early in the season.

Well, given that he doesn't really have any other high quality pitches... starter seems to be out. He doesn't have a "you can't hit me" pitch, so closer seems unlikely. If he could develop a good sweeping curveball/slider then lefty specialist would be a possibility... so, middle relief is about all he's got right now.

Yeah, he's got a pretty nasty fast ball but that seems to be about it at this point. I'd love to see him develop into a closer. He's only 25 so he could cook up another pitch to add to his repertoire.

Gordon Beckham
Neil Walker
Brien Roberts
Chone Figgins
Howie Kendrick
Ryan Raburn
Mike Aviles
Tsuyoshi Nishioka

Beef, did you pick up Howie yet?? I hope you did, you may not take him out when Utley comes back.

Not yet. I'll keep an eye on this guy though, thanks for the heads up!

He was supposed to be a starter, but I don't think he ever developed a decent 3rd pitch.

Probably a middle bullpen lifer with lefty specialist setup guy as his ceiling.

Lee just didn't have his stuff tonight. At all. Everything was flat, and he was throwing meatballs from the start. Braves hit everything HARD.

Literally the worst possible outcome for Howard in that at bat. Blech. Although I do like this whole watching the Phillies on MLB Network (I don't live locally anymore) and Flyers on the computer thing.

Yeah I agree. There aren't many times that it'd be better if Howard swung and missed, but that was one of them.

I don't really hate the Braves as so much as their mindless and annoying Tomahawk chop chant or whatever it's called. Makes any game in Atlanta unwatchable.

Lee had a bad game, oh well. Oswalt should pick him up, and I'm guessing Hamels will look to to do better than his previous outing.

27. I remember their dominance - especially in the 90's - well enough, but I guess I just never grew to hate them like others had. I had more of a grudging respect of them. Plus I don't know if I could hate or have ever hated a baseball team like I could an NFL team (Dallas) or NHL team (Pittsburgh) for an extended period of time. I guess my feelings toward other franchises wax and wane over time. Then again I can't stand the current showboaty-ness of the Mets and that could keep me going for a while.

I can see your point there. I look at it from a slightly different angle though. The Braves were perennial winners which is annoying, but what frustrated me more was that the Phils usually weren't. From '95 to '03 the Phils finished 2nd in the division to the Braves just once, and had losing records most of those years. So it's not like the Braves were consistently breaking hearts of Phils fans at the end of the summer year in and year out, often they were out of it by the trade deadline. If there were more WS wins for the Braves or more seasons like '01 and '05 where the Phils finished a close 2nd to the Braves I would probably feel more like you do.

Well, as much as I pay attention to the Phils... I'm more of a baseball fan than a Phils fan in some ways, and the Braves were so *ing boring (on top of winning the Phils' division every year). Just so little drama.
