Thursday could have been Sean Avery's last game as a Ranger

Quote:
Drury's return plus the recall of Mats Zuccarello after a week with the AHL Whale means that, 1) Sean Avery is all but certain to be scratched from what well could be his final game as part of a Rangers' roster; and, 2) the ill-conceived Matt Gilroy experiment at right wing is over.

If the Rangers find a taker, that team pays only 1/2 the salary and takes 1/2 the cap hit with the Stars. Rangers are off the hook.

I'm sure there will be a long line to assume Avery's contract and him.

I dont think thats accurate. If we trade him or put him on waivers Dallas is no longer charged his salary or cap hit

I believe it's only if the Ranger waive him that's the case.

if he can't get dealt I doubt they waive him. He does not make that much

question, if he is waived does that team only pay half the salary. If that is the case I think someone take him and especially at 1 million on re-entry. No idea about that league rule

Why wouldn't they just bury him in Hartford along with Wendy?

I cant believe Avery made a combined 4 million for this past season.

Has to be some sort of record for lowest GPG per game wages for an NHL forward.

1.333 million bucks per goal. I would think Yashin was worse but he never played a game for the last 5 seasons

A trade is just not possible. No team in their right mind would take Avery with his baggage. The problem is that he can't even be sent down to the AHL if a team wants to dump his salary, because he is the type of player that will cause a big stink about it. I foresee a buyout or he stays. The offseason, which I have a feeling will begin soon, will be interesting due to all the possible buyouts (Avery, WW, Drury).

Brooks also mentions in the same article that this could be Gaborik's last game as a Ranger. I hope that is not the case.

Avery is done as an NHL-player. He needs to focus on fashion instead. he should just retire already the bum, he brings nothing to the table anymore.

tjs252, why do you hope that it's not the case. This bum cost us a playoff spot 100%.If he has 5 more goals we are not in this spot today. I am on record 3 months ago saying this guys career is over, and it is. He is not even in the top 50 NHL forwards in this leauge. This bum checked out 3 months ago. Get rid of him!!!

I hope that Thursday was his last regular-season game as a Ranger (Yes, I still have a bit of faith in this whole mess).

If this is Avery's last game as a Ranger then is most likely his last game in the NHL. He most likely retires if the Rangers give up on him.

I suggest you contact bdaly@nhl.com

I asked him a few months ago for clarification. His response was "Half the cap hit stays with the Stars and half would go to a new team" to a question about the Rangers trading Avery and how the cap hit would be counted.

I've been saying it since the beginning of the year; Sean Avery will join the cast of Hockey Night Live when either his contract is up or he "retires."

If he's not playing in New York, he has no career as a player in North America. He needs to go to the KHL for a year, or just retire due to lack of interest and become a celebrity. He was pretty good on the Jagr/Shanny teams but he's done as an NHLEr.

Avery is a healthy scratch today.

Dallas gets off the hook from paying 1/2 of Avery's salary and taking 1/2 the hit only if the Rangers place Avery on re-entry and he is claimed another team. Then the Rangers and the other team split the cap hit. If the Rangers waived Avery and he was claimed by another team, the Rangers would be off the hook with Dallas and the claiming team splitting the cost. Avery claimed on re-entry waivers gets Dallas off the hook(only scenario). If the Rangers bought out Avery, the Rangers and Stars split the buyout. Daly told me that two years ago.

It's a HUGE problem; next year in Hartford is really year one of the massive prospect migration; Werek, Horak, Pashnian, Hagelin (although I think he makes it with the big club), maybe Krieder, Grant, Stacjer, McKnaught, and Wilson, that other goalie from Montreal they just got, and returnees like Del Z (hopefully not), Valentenko, Kundratek, Grachev, and Weise will all be down there.

Do you really want a possibly disgruntled Avery in that locker room?
