Boogaard is done as a NY Ranger

I want to start off by saying I can not and will not give up my source on this because he is part of the Rangers.

I asked how the big guy was doing and if he was going to be ok for camp?

Source" Who ?"

Boogaard I said
Source " he is done here never see him here again.. Guy is so fat and out of shape it hurts"

I said wow was it from the punch?

Source " he is fried he is all messed up from that punch it ended his career for sure"

I then asked how does it effect the cap?

Source "it doesn't he retires or goes to KHL and he comes off"

not to big of a deal with the focus on the playoffs but still more cap space if it happens

If this is true, I can't help but feel bad for the guy.

That's absolutely terrible for poor Boogs, but every bit of cap space helps. Hope he at least goes to the KHL instead of being forced to retire.

wow, boogie the one who gets knocked out early from hockey due to taking a punch... Can't say I would have thought it with the big guy. Hoping he can make a full recovery

A fighter in his shape and who gets concussed will very likely not be able to do keep it up.

Gotta feel bad for the guy if it is true.

I feel bad his career may be over but it happens when your job is too take a punch to the head.

This is bad but lets hope he does indeed come off the cap and retires

Hope he is good for his own long term health but I never want to see him play as a Ranger again.

Good news for the Rangers cap if true. Not a fan of Boogaard, but it's unfortunate if that punch ends his career. I heard that Colton Orr's latest concussion could be career-ending as well. We could be witnessing the beginning of the end of enforcers in the NHL.

I know the league addresses concussions in regards to blindside hits to the head, but have they discussed concussions in the context of fighting? After finding out that Probert had CTE, and with so many enforcers suffering from concussions, it's definitely something the NHL should look into.

Hated the signing and results but how do you not feel sorry for someone going through what he is?

As nice as it would be to get out of that contract, its too bad for Derek that this happens just as he is collecting his nice life's paycheck.

When did you find this out, because Boogaard has been around the practice facility and skating again.

Honestly, I hope it's true, but it seems to conflict with the beat writers' reports (in that Boogaard is actually around now). A few months ago he was back in Minnesota recuperating, but he returned to NY and was skating.

Tweets from mid-March:

Quote:
@AGrossRecord: Derek Boogaard on ice at Rangers morning optional. Hasn't played since Dec. 9 due to concussion.

@stevezipay: Five forwards, four d on ice for rangers, plus johnson
@stevezipay: One forward is Derek Boogaard

@NYDNRangers: Derek Boogaard on ice with #NYR teammates for first time since suffering concussion in December.

I know it wouldn't count against the cap, but would he still be collecting a paycheck from the Rangers?

I'm in the minority but I like having one of if not the toughest guy around. Bad contract but feel bad for Derek. I'll never forget when he stared through the soul of Tim Jackman.

Larry Brooks spoke to Boogs a few weeks back and gave no indication of his weight going up. In fact, he mentioned he is back skating. I dont believe this fat boogs rumor.

good pt, i read those too. Maybe he is trying but still having issues and is out of shape. Even if he works out like crazy and comes back his job is to fight and with a bad concussion can he really do that?

He will either retire, get loaned to the KHL or get waived to CT ..........it was a stupid signing to begin with. Plus the Rangers have run 4 lines and have depth thsi yr. No way Boogaard would of even got back in.

Rangers are classy he can retire and work for the organization in a different capacity

Boogs is a good guy, but a terrible player. I wouldn't mind him gone tbh.

Sucks that he had to suffer a concussion though.

Larry Brooks is a great writer but trust me this came from someone who would 100% be in the know and Boogaard did skate a few days and it became obvious he was done. When was the last time he was at a time function ? he hasn't been to the Garden and no where around the team. Trust me if anyone know me or was outside 31 after the game last night they know where the info came from I am shocked no one else posted it and used names

I thought he sustained the concussion from hitting his head on the ice from the take-down????
