That was before I remembered that O'Reilly might be able to go. If he and Erat are both healthy then I think we need to keep Fish on a scoring line and let Spaling/Smithson/Ward take care of shut down duties. If neither of them can go I think we need to have a shutdown line for the games in Anaheim at least, and I'd rather see Fish center it than Legwand.
The one thing to keep in mind is that all three of their big 3 are really good skaters and are physical.
If you guys want to deploy a checking line, I'd advise that the checking line can skate pretty well and can both take, and dish out the physical stuff.
What is your guess for the lines TMI?

I really hope Trotz keeps Sullivan and O'Reilly off the ice, especially Sullivan. Both float too much and avoid contact while turning the puck over too much.

Right now I'm going to assume Erat will play and O'Reilly won't, so my assumption is we'll see something like this:
Erat Legwand Ward
Kostitsyn Fisher Hornqvist
Some combo of Tootoo/Geoffrion/Spaling/Smithson
Some combo of Halischuck/Dumont/Tootoo/Geoffrion/Wilson
but Sullivan is also back. Trotz could scratch Dumont and O'Reilly in favor of Sullivan. He could scratch Geoffrion in favor of Sully since Sully is a vet (which wouldn't surprise me). It's almost impossible to tell what our bottom six will be. Set in stone are the top two lines (for game 1 at least). Spaling and Smithson will be on the third line used in a shut down role, which they do very effectively. Halischuk and Wilson will definitely be on the fourth line. I like our bottom six against Anaheim's bottom six a lot.

I'm really glad we're playing you guys instead of the majority of other teams with their "Fans" that show up to Ducks games. I'm sure you feel the same way with teams like Detroit.

Best of luck guys! Lets hope for no injuries.
Detroit fans aren't usually that bad about coming onto our boards. They just like to start threads in the NHL board every time they feel wronged
Erat Legwand Wilson
SK Fish Hornqvist
Sullivan Geoffrion Halischuk
Spaling Smithson Ward
Wont ever happen but thats what I would go with
Those lines might work. Moving Wilson up to the Legwand line could give it an additional spark, or it could shoot us in the foot. Wilson has been struggling this season.

I'd keep Sullivan out. No point screwing up the chemistry.

Yeah, I would say there is zero percent chance O'Reilly is back for game 1. Trotz isn't going to start him cold in game 1 of the playoffs. I'm more worried about Sully seeing ice if Erat can't go.
If Erat can go(Please God) we'll just stick with what's worked:
Erat-Leggy-Ward
SK-Fisher-Hornqvist
Halischuck-Smithson-Tootoo
Spaling-Geoferrion- Wilson
You could probably flip flop any of Halischuck,Spaling,Toots around.
Erat Legwand Wilson
SK Fish Hornqvist
Sullivan Geoffrion Halischuk
Spaling Smithson Ward
Wont ever happen but thats what I would go with
LOL. Nope. Why take Ward off a line with Leggy and Erat? No Tootoo? He's the only forward with any sense of fighting ability. They have some big boys up front and we need a physical game changer and he's the only one we have that can do that. He's also been productive with Smithson and Halischuk for whatever reason.
That would be my guess. If Trotz wants to mess with it he can replace Hali with Spaling and insert Sully on to the 4th line. No way Spaling sits because of his PK ability. If for some reason we need to change match ups up front we can move Wilson into a more defined top 6 role to give us more size up front but I doubt that happens.
You roll 3 lines which are good at two-way, and you have a 4th line which can cause troubles if incorrectly matched up.
Any idea if Goc or Lombardi may play in this series?
Neither of them will play. Lombardi, at this point, is even questionable for next season. No one really knows anything about his situation. I'm pretty sure Goc ended up having season ending shoulder surgery. Am I wrong?

my guess also... this is what got us here.
Wilson is so snakebit, no confidence and fancy little dipsy doodles....
we have to roll 4 lines.... you would have to have a very specific argument for me to think that sully deserves to play... you can't have a line going in with a hurt old slow player on it......sry sully......
That, and I think it would also help if they gave away orange hunting vests for one of the games (even though I think maybe you only wear those when deer hunting? whatever), and if we are prepared with pieces of bread to throw at any Ducks fans we may see.

sorry, ridiculous............and uncalled for.......don't throw anything on the ice or at opposing fans.
i like the orange idea though....maybe they'll come up with a mustard towel.

That's insanity. Kostitsyn has been our best forward for most of the year, and you're taking him out of the top six to insert Spaling?
Trotz falls on his face when he tries to make these "hybrid" lines that have neither an offensive or defensive identity. If we're going to be successful, the top six is what it was when we were at our hottest, through march:
Kostitsyn Fisher Hornqvist
Erat Legwand Ward
beyond that--
Spaling O'Reilly Wilson
Tootoo Smithson Halischuk
That's the way I'd roll it. I'm hesitant to put O'Reilly in, but Trotz is limiting Geoffrion's icetime so severely right now anyway, it's not even a benefit to have him in. If Sullivan is healthy...I really am nervous about putting him in, but if he has to be, I'd alternate him and Wilson and see who sparks.
