Maybe that will be the Ellis that cracks under pressure. He's Jekyll or Hyde in big games.

I worry we may not have enough firepower, although I liked the strong finish to the year. I expected Wilson to be on a top three line for this years playoffs, but in a year and a half of Pred coaching his training apparently has not gone well. I don't know if Smithson, Halischuk can do it. Seem similar to past years, at best, when I hoped we'd be stronger up front. The defense is better, and hopefully that will be enough. Last year I was supremely confident we could beat anybody, except for possibly the one team we drew in the first round, although I still felt pretty good. This year I'm only moderately confident.

Of the eight playoff series, five of them saw the two teams split the regular season series. Rangers, Montreal and Nashville are the three who won theirs. As for the Preds, they actually scored against Anaheim, at least four goals in all four games, outscoring the Ducks 17-11 in the regular season. A good sign?

i like how everyone is being polite between the two teams for now, but after about one period, it will get ugly, as it always does

Why wait? Beat the rush. Start the "Smack Talk" early.

I can't stand the Ducks.
I guess it's a holdover from the "Pronger-Neidermeyer" era, or the Anaheim "let's-goon-it-up" Ducks.
As for the current roster...let's get personal, shall we?
Bobby Ryan is a little piss-ant.
Corey Perry is ugly.
Ryan Getzlaf is bald AND Fugly.
Teemu Selanne is OLD.
Jonas Hiller wears a welding mask.
Ray Emery drives a ghetto Hummer.
Dan Ellis has #Problems.

Send them all to DisneyLand.

Who knows?
Put him in again. Fine with me.
Light him up.

He may back up Ellis if Emery is still a no-go.
I haven't seen where they've called up anyone else.

I don't see him getting the start Wednesday that's for sure. If Emery is feeling fine he will start. If not then Ellis.

I think somewhere someone called Ellis the "poorest millionaire"

to me if he is indeed the starter thats the storyline of the series... Dan Ellis returns to nashville to face the goalie who displaced him.

wonder if ellis still loses 10+ pounds a game?

As a Sens fan I endorse this entire post -- except Ray Emery. Still like that guy.

Anyhow, definitely pulling for the Predators in this series.

I've NEVER felt good about going into the playoffs with this team. EVER. But this year... i dunno why, but for some reason I feel good about them. I actually have some confidence in the Preds this year. Confidence is a heartbreaking thing

Regular season record against the Western Conference playoff teams. The only clear disadvantage was against the Kings who are now Kopitar-less. We can win this year people. Our team has the talent on the blue-line and in net to advance. The question is will specialty teams kill us, and will we be able to contain the one-line wrecking crew of the Ducks.

Preds against the Canucks: 2-2
Preds against the Sharks: 2-0-2
Preds against the Red Wings: 4-1-1
Preds against the Ducks: 3-1
Preds against the Coyotes: 2-2
Preds against the Kings: 1-3 (ugh)
Preds against the Blackhawks: 3-3

So the only series that doesn't have games on Versus or NBC is this one. Lovely. The Penguins and Lightning have two on Versus. Every other series has at least four.

Nice job, NHL.

I'm feeling better about this series than I was before. That homer optimism kicking in I suppose. I think the difference maker in this series will be goaltending, more specifically Anaheim's goaltending. If Emery/Ellis give a solid A performance, then we might have problems. But if they struggle even the slightest, I think we can take it. Hopefully, we can get into Ellis's head and Emery will remain injured.

I think looking at the season series is a bit misleading...
-Oct game was when Anaheim was terrible. Remember everyone calling them the worst team in the league for that first couple weeks? They are very different now. Not a good reference game.
-Nov game was at the end of our bad losing streak. But this was the game that got us out of the funk. Nearly went to OT. This was a good game.
-Jan game Anaheim didn't have Getzlaf or Blake, but still a good road win.
-Mar game we had 3 "free" goals due to Hiller coming back from injury too early and letting in softies. Despite this, Anaheim battled back and nearly tied it up (though, they got a lot of help from Suter )

Just as long as Ellis doesn't go into full vengeance mode.

we need Ellis in juicy rebound mode and need to remind Hornqvist, Ward and Legwand that they usually come out pretty far

Nice job, NHL.
We usually tank it on national televised games, so I don't mind this one bit myself. If we finally break out of the 1st round however, they'll have little excuse not to show at least one of our 2nd round games.

maybe lidstrom taught weber how to dump the puck in on goal vs ellis at the all star game. if so, every game is a win

for duck fans..in the playoffs couple seasons ago, our building was rocking, wings on their heels, and lidstrom sends a soft dump on net that bounces and beats ellis and effectively kills us

Doesn't really bother me that we're not getting national coverage. We usually choke when on national TV.

This is what I'm afraid of. We all know Dan "Snowstorm" Ellis can turn it on this time of year despite how bad he is during most of the reg season.

But I'm gonna go ahead and call the snowstorm streak a one time fluke
