OT: Tastykake Sold To Georgia Bakery

http://www.myfoxphilly.com/dpp/news/...georgia-bakery

I wonder if this will affect the sponsoring/donation surrounding goalscoring.

They said something weird saturday

To hell with sponsoring, I wonder how this affects a neighbor of mine who's worked for them for over 20 years.

Here's the good news, at least initially: http://phx.corporate-ir.net/phoenix....680&highlight=

Quote:
"We are very pleased with the addition of Tasty to Flowers," said George E. Deese, Flowers Foods' Chairman and CEO. "Tasty brings a talented, committed team of employees, two highly efficient bakeries, the iconic Tastykake brand, a solid sales base, and an effective distribution system. The merger will expand Flowers' geographic reach and bring new consumers, new customers, and new opportunities for further growth. It will provide the opportunity to add Tastykake products to Flowers' existing direct-store-delivery network. With the addition of Tasty, our snack cake business will be significantly enhanced and we will have a new platform to grow our Nature's Own brand as we make other acquisitions that add needed production capacity for breads, buns, and rolls.

"Tasty and Flowers have a similar heritage and share the same core values of integrity, service, quality, and commitment," Deese continued. "We are delighted to welcome Tasty's 740 dedicated employees and 413 independent sales distributors to the Flowers Foods family. Our plans are to invest in the combined business for sustainable and profitable growth, and they will be an important part of Flowers' ongoing success."

How can you go wrong with a sponsorship by a company named Victory?

If they had Smirnoff sponsor it, Carter and Richards would net 100 goals per season...every season.

What would be more impressive is their assist totals. They would have to set up tons of goals early in games so that they could score all of their goals when the game is already a blowout.

There would be more instances of icing per game.

This truly sucks.

Pretty soon there is going to be nothing uniquely Philadelphia anymore.

Breyers Ice Cream gone. Goldenberg's Peanut Chews sold, ruined, and gone. Federal Pretzel Company gone. Manzo's Water Ice gone.

Now Tastykake.

WTF I'm losing my childhood.

This is great news for me down here in the FL panhandle by time Tastykakes get down here they are sold stale or dried out filling in the pies *yuck* They are hard to find down here, especially some of the better items Tasty carries. I'm happy!

Wait, what? I moved right off of Hulmeville about a year ago and I have no idea what you're talking about, and I feel like I'm missing out on both flowers and a gunt.

No offense meant so please don't take this the wrong way...but what the hell does FL know about Tastykakes?

Or Georgia for that matter?

TastyKakes are true Philly staples. FL and GA know nothing about what they mean to us.

In honor of Tastykake and in the spirit of showing true Philly pride, this thursday morning, on game day, I will have a true Philly breakfast with scrapple followed by a tastykake afterward.

She's at the very end of Woodhaven Rd before you get on Byberry. She's amazing. She's there all year round, sometimes I swear she's been dead for days and nobody has bothered to check because she doesnt move. She's gotta weigh 4 bills.

guys, its not like they're going to change the recipe or the label...
everyone in the food/bottling companies knows that CONSISTENCY is the key to making food be successful...
look at new coke (kind of obvious), they changed the formula and had an uprising...

the only thing thats going to change here is the distribution...
if i can get tasty cakes in more places then last year, im going to be happy...and if you like tasty cakes you should too!

tuckrr,

We were told the same s**t when Goldenberg's Peanut Chews got bought out by the Just Born company.

They then changed the recipe from a wholesome, delicious, all natural ingredients candy to putting pure trash like partially hydrogenated oils (which is a poison by the way) into them.

I will not buy now nor ever again goldenberg's peanut chews unless they go back to the original recipe which made the candy so special to begin with.

I was lucky to find my favorite Goldenberg's Peanut Chews in Big Lots down here in FL but of course the next time I looked for them they never had them again. The whole store could hear my foul Philly mouth scream *****! I knew I should have cleared the shelf of them and hoarded them. I was just surprised they still made the candy let alone to find them all the way down here. *sigh*

Oh to get authentic pretzels I have to make them myself using the Philly factory exact recipe. It's pain in the rear but makes a good gesture gift to other transplants down here that miss the same stuff from home. They come out great but nothing like the car exhaust and unwashed pretzel man hands to give those pretzels that extra special Philly taste.

Florida is filled with people from somewhere else, primarily the Northeast and Midwest. We have our fair share of native Philadelphians, which is why Tasty Baking sends trucks full of their treats all the way down to the Sunshine State. Florida is the only state south of the Mid-Atlantic region that gets that kind of treatment.
