I think he will be a 3rd line player @ best.

I wasn't wowed in the NCAA finals...he really wasn't noticeable.

Are you really basing his entire NHL career on his performance in a few games???

I want to see Hagelin-Boyle-Prust is Fedotenko is not retained.

Isn't that what everyone else does.

I was just hoping for a little more out of him.

I think the Rangers have a few guys that are similar to him...Horak, Bourque, Fasth (down the road), if he is the best of the bunch, great..then move the rest.

should add some additional talent to our bottom 6. hes a terrific skater. he makes us faster and team speed, if utilized properly, is a weapon.

im excited to see what he can do playing the pk and getting some minutes on a checking line that may be able to keep teams pinned in with speed and forecheck.

to me, he fits perfectly into this system that torts uses. aggressive forecheck, active forwards and counter attacking off neutral zone turnovers.

our bottom 6 just got better.

welcome to the family carl

Eh, it wasn't one of his better games. I think projecting him as an elite PKer and bottom-6 player is a good call for those doing so. His speed is a very serious weapon. He is not overly physical but he is a gym rat so hopefully as he gets a little bit older he can continue to gain strength which he will need moving forward.

Great signing and a great pick back in '07 by Clarke. I think a mix between Fedotenko and Sjostrom is a good comparison for him.

which i would take in a heartbeat, but what do you do with Horak and Bourque because they are projecting to be the same type of player as Carl.

You hope they challenge each other to elevate their games. In the end only so many will make it. The rest either don't pan out or get traded for late picks and hopefully get a chance to catch on somewhere else.

The announcers made it a point of saying that there other team's game plan was to stop Hagelin. They accomplished that. It happens to really good players all the time. Like the Rangers (i.e. Staal) shutting down AO this season. I hear he is pretty good, despite that.

He could still be a 3rd liner though. Let's hope he overachieves.

Hope they develop.

I think Bourque has a similar ceiling to Callahan. Smaller, gritty player with great hands in juniors. He has injury concerns as of right now.

Horak is intriguing. He is a good size at 6'1 but he NEEDS to get stronger and add weight. He has good hands and his defensive game has gotten better. I think he is at least 2 years away if he ever makes it.

Horak is a center, so he and Hagelin won't be battling against each other most likely.

Bourque and Hagelin do play the same position but for me, Hagelin is much more suited for a lower-line, while Bourque, due to his size, is much more suited for a top-6 role if he ever puts it together.

Unfortunately for both Bourque and Hagelin, the Rangers have a glut of left-wingers moving forward:

Dubinsky
Wolski
Prust
Kreider
Grachev

Hagelin
Bourque
Werek(can play center as well, good on face-offs)

That is without any signings....

What's your basis for thinking that though?

Sjostrom doesn't provide any offense.... Hagelin was a PPG player his last 2 years at NCCA level and plays on the PP and has underrated passing ability.... I see him as a 3rd liner AT LEAST....

Don't forget Callahan and Dubinsky were supposed to be 3rd line 'grinders' when they joined the NHL ranks....

Not saying I agree or disagree with Inferno's projection, but Sjostrom was a 1st round pick at one point, so he was thought to have some offensive upside. It works both ways.

But do you remember watching Freddy play? He had little offensive awareness, average (at best) passing ability, and average to below average stick-handling ability.... The only comparables I see in their games are skating and PK ability...

I see Hagelin as a 20-30 point player. he might get a few 40 point seasons later in his career. But what do I know. Good speed and decent hockey IQ I believe.

Bad scouting.

He didn't really progress any from last season in terms of scoring.

That is because he is pretty much through developing.

The only things he has left to learn can only be taught through the pro game.

PPG scoring 2 seasons in a row at NCAA level is pretty nice...

Also this:

Quote:
Oh, and by the way, he's a pretty dynamic winger, as well. A sixth-round draft pick of the New York Rangers in 2007, Hagelin is a finalist for CCHA player of the year and best defensive forward honors. His 37 points (15 goals) rank fourth in the league. His 45 points overall lead the Wolverines, as do his 17 goals, 28 assists, seven power-play goals, six game-winners and his plus-20 rating.

More impressively, he does his best work against the tougher teams. He has 24 points in 18 games against ranked opponents.
