Vinny Prospal: Lecavalier sent me a message

There was a nice interview with Prospal today in one of Czech newspapers, so I just thought I'll translate one part that I found interesting for you to waste some time while waiting for the start of the playoffs It's about the contact between Rangers and Lightning just before The Match...

Was it very stressful to wait for the outcome of the Carolina game?
"It is true that after we won this crucial match, the mood in the cabin was not so good. We were talking about the fact that we won 44 games in a season, but if Carolina beat Tampa, they would have only 41 wins and get into playoffs instead of us. It would be a bit unfair."

Did you have a lot of faith in Tampa?
"In the NHL, you are playing every game to win, nobody will dare to throw a game. So I was hoping it will go well."

You used to play in Tampa, did you ask your former teammates to help you?
"On the way from our game, I exchanged a few text messages with Martin St. Louis. Vincent Lecavalier contacted me on his own. He texted me that he is ready to win. I will apreciate this until the day I die, it warmed my heart.

It worked, Tampa Bay won 6:2.
"I really appreciate the way they've done it. They had nothing to play for and it is beautiful that they helped us even while they didn't have to."

Did you write your buddies St. Louis and Lecavalier to thank them afterwards?
"Of course. I immediately told them that I am proud of how they played. Tampa plays excellent hockey this season, I think they can surprise everyone a lot in the playoffs."

Thats what I call true friends backing eachother up.

Tampa Bay do play entertaining hockey and are fun to watch.

Seeing Minnesota and Tampa Bay nothing to play for but still act very professional and fight hard is a rare sight in todays sports. Something to learn of this for many teams around the world.

Thanks for the article!

Prospal is easily one of my favorite players to watch. Bad knees and all he keeps on plugging away. And he still has the enthusiasm of kid when scoring a goal.

Even though giving your best at all times should be a given when you`re a professional athlete reading this makes me feel a great deal of respect and appreciation for Vinny Lecavalier and his teammates.

Never thought much of Tampa Bay before but I can`t help but feel a great deal of sympathy for that organization after what they did against Carolina.

Goes to show you that hockey is way more than just plugging in a lineup and examining the facts of a matchup, which some people forget sometimes. Great on Vinny L, always liked him.

Tampa Bay won a lot of respect with that. Good for them, Vinny and Marty are great players, and good guys to boot.

Just awesome. I think Tampa are going to be my second team this playoffs. Scared at the possibility of facing them though!

Tampa has been my 2nd team for quite awhile and I'll be rooting for them in the PO's unless they meet the Rangers.

Rooting for them in round one is a no brainer. They will need all the help they can get going up against the zebra's!

I love how people think that the players hate Torts because he pushes them hard. Clearly everyone hates him.

I honestly think Tampa could lay waste to the Eastern Conference. They are a hot goalie away from being a monster

After watching them dismantle Carolina with that potent offense.... They are a hot goalie a way from SLAUGHTERING the eastern conference. I mean could you imagine goalie like Lundqvist on that Tampa team? I shudder to think about it...

I think most Ranger fans have adopted Tampa as their fall back team.

I've kinda rooted against Tampa just because I know a Lightning fan that thinks he knows everything so it was amusing to see him get pissed off all the time but after this whole thing, I have to pull for them. Even if they lost, I still would have pulled for them because I saw the team was putting in effort and trying to win the game, not half assing plays. They earned a lot of respect in my book and it isn't something I'll forget.

Thank you Tampa Bay for helping us out.

Now I hope they lose in the first round.

Sorry, but they are a team we do not match up well against and I do not want to see them in the PO's.
