Wow - just saw this from McKenzie. I take it back Homer, can we still be friends? LOL. Now we have more depth in net and D, wow, can't believe someone didn't put the screws to us.
NOTE: Still stupid on Homer. Can't believe he wasn't burned.
The Flyers always loose at least 2 dmen every playoff. Homer is just having as much depth as he can. I still remember sammy on D back in 04, when clarke stupidly traded weinrich earlier in the season. You can never have enough D.
Though since Joe Banner probably won't be doing anything this summer I wonder if he can help homer out with cap management.
The bottom pairing last season was actually our bottom pairing. Walker is enjoying the view from the press box unless there are injuries.
Homer was right, he could get him through, so now he has an extra defenseman.
The risk was never very big, it was the consequences that were.
This sentence makes absolutely no sense... the consequences WERE the risk. If a guy isn't signed past this year, then by all means call up whomever you want. I couldn't care less if Matt Walker left the Flyers organization (actually, I'd be thrilled to not have him). It was the consequences that concerned me.

the comparision is that both options are both terrible. At least what we had out there last year can skate. He would be a liability out there if we had to use him. Hopefully it wont come to that.

It makes perfect sense.
The risk isn't the consequences, or maybe I should use the word likelihood instead of using the word risk.
There was a very remote likelihood that Matt Walker was going to be claimed. If he was, it was a dire situation. But there was probably a less than 1% chance of that happening. Hence, the actual risk was small.
There is very little risk to riding in an airplane. If something goes wrong, though, the consequences are dire.
Again, the consequences were scary enough to me that I wouldn't have made the same move, but I was never concerned that Walker would get claimed, not at this particular moment in time.

In short, you personally felt that the risk was significant enough to make it an inadvisable move, but want to rationalize a defense of Holmgren anyway by stressing the minimal nature of that risk?
It was a dumb move, with significant downside... he shouldn't have done it to get a mediocre D onto the playoff roster when we have a slew of other viable options.
How many times must this be said? It isn't the RESULT that warrants the reaction. The fact that these re-entry attempts are happening is the problem. Whether or not these players clear or don't clear, doesn't make them any less stupid.
If you play Russian Roulette and don't blow your brains out, does that mean it was a good decision?
Without looking at TSN transactions page I am going to go out on a limb and say other then Leighton and Walker all of the players who were on re-entry will be UFAs after this season.
if someone wants to take the time and go thru the list, have at it.
With his recent history there's a good chance his leg falls off, if it's any consolation.
or worse yet, Even if he doesnt play 1 game in the playoffs, Holmgren thinks he can replace OD next season. And what do you know

Holmgren says Matt Walker who cleared re-entry needs to knock rust off. Hinted at longer term depth call up.

Well I'm not that surprised but luckily he passed through like a kidney stone I suppose...now I wish we could unload him completely.
Apparently Holmgren's secret to success in getting players through re-entry waiver equates to acquiring low talent medical basket cases. All GM's around the league take note of Holmgren's mensa moves
Zherdev is the only slight exception since he's talented but def a mental case....
Zherdev....a talented mental case. This has avatar written all over it.

Depending on who he's paired with, I could see Walker making a decent bottom pairing guy. It's not like OD was a monster for us; he gave Meszaros some good support but he's nothing we can't replace.

Matt Walker was barely cracking the Tampa Bay Lightening lineup last season....and when he did, he was their worse defender. When I stayed down in Florida for a few months, I had to watch the damn guy try to play hockey.
