Regier on WGR550 8/5/05

I started listening in the middle of it but here:

Darcy says Numminen is a Top 4 guy

Darcy says they're looking for another top 4 dman

Darcy says theyre set on forwards

Darcy dodged the question about moving a goaltender and said he's not looking to sign Khabibulin

Interstingly, Darcy thinks the cap will go down next year because he doesnt think the league will meet its revenue level needed to keep the current cap, then teams like the Flyers will have to buyout or trade players to get under the new cap. Players will be bought out 2/3 of their contract and it will affect the cap.

Numminen could be a 4th defenseman to play with Mckee, but this team still needs a guy to pair with Kalinin. I like that they are looking for another (a guy like Hamrlik would be ideal).

As for the forward thing...I know Vanek is ready, but I disagree with Darcy. We have a lot of forwards yes, but we could use a good one or two.

Darcy on WGR

Howard Simon also asked about the rumor of Khabibulin to Buffalo (as seen on **lund's site). Darcy said no, but talked to Bulin's agent about other players. Darcy added the amount of years Bulin wants is two or more and Darcy couldn't commit to that.

Good! I'd rather keep our $600K Noronen between the pipes than overspend on a playoff goalie we won't have a chance to use in the playoffs.

Khabibulin is certainly better than Noronen (at this point), but he's certainly not worth 13 Noronens.

That rumor only makes sense if we're sending a goalie out and getting a d-man in return.

but, for the life of me I can't put a viable trade between those teams together.

Ta,

Anybody know who else Bulin's agent represents?

When I was listening to him he stated he talked to him about Kalinin, who he represents, and asked about Bulin.

Is it me, or is this recurring buy-out clause turning into an issue?

He represents Kovalchuk, Gaborik, and Chistov. I'd be happy with any of them

I've heard Regier say that before. Tallinder's very underrated by the fans. He's a top 4 dman and can be one of the better ones with a little more consistancy. The right partner can bring that out. Teppo seems like an ideal partner for Tallinder. I also think Fitzpatrick is being sold short here. I don't have any qualms about pairing him with Kalinin if Jillson doesn't show more consistancy. McKee is a 3rd pair dman in my book who will get close to 2nd pair minutes by playing on the PK.

Kalinin-???????/patrick/fitzpatrick
Tallinder-Numminen
McKee-Jillson

Mckee and Jillson will add minutes on the PK and PP respectively.

I'd re-sign Brad Brown instead of Patrick and hire Patrick as an assistant, or even as a player coach in Rochester. If there's injuries, or some guys totally flop, he could be brought on the roster at some time during the season. If the team is in contention at the trade deadline, they could even sign him to an NHL contract and have him on their playoff roster.

Id love to resign Brad Brown. I loved his intensity and crease clearing talents. But the bottom line is id still like the perfect partner for Kalinin. I really see Numminen as the partner for Tallinder.
