It's game 1. No biggie. No series has ever been decided in the first game. I think they played pretty well except for the first period. Staal makes a miscue by not getting the puck out and it cost them. Lesson hopefully learned.

Staal had time to lift that puck out of the zone. Drury messed up no doubt, but Staal had it and had time.

Staal ****ed up

This loss is on him and the dumbass forwards that all left the zone.

This was a game for the taking. Rangers missed a HUGE opportunity tonight.

So mad right now.

Still angry about the lack of whistle on the Caps goal, but the Rangers played what seemed like the entire overtime period in our own zone. THe offense just didnt exist.

Prust and Boyle hung Staal out to dry. Not a great play by him but he had literally 0 options.

Stall played his heart out all night long. He was gassed and made a bad play. That's what happens in overtime.

I agree. Staal played too much. They needed to have the fresher players more out there.

This team looked GASSED in overtime.

Maybe Gabby can take some lessons from Ovie on how to get a shot past a dman. I'm gonna be pissed if i hear "Gaborik-- into the shin pads" every ****ing game.

Did Neuvirth even play? The only save i saw him make was gaborik shooting it into his chest. What a waste of a great game by Henrik. A-****ing-Shame.

He was actually the reason Ovechkin's stuffin went in. He didn't shut out Caps, he was on the ice for all their goals, and if Lundqvist wasn't standing on his head and good luck, we would get lit up this game.

They played a tight game against a very good team. They're going to win or wear the Caps down real hard before this series is over. I'd rather them win obviously but its game 1 and they played alright.

This loss hurts really bad, but if we win on Friday it's considered a success for the road team to win one of the first two games. Don't hit the panic button yet.

In regards to the game, our weakest part of our game reared its ugly head -- our offense. A measly one goal through almost 80 minutes of hockey. It's just unacceptable. We desperately need to aquire talent this off season because this group as it is is just offensively inept supplementing a lone offensive talent... that isn't scoring.

POTG: Hank. Overall an incredible effort.

This loss is all on Staal, what an idiot.

People like you are ridiculous. Why do you insist on putting responsibility for the loss on one player? You do realize that there were other players on the ice right?

And to the guy who was complaining about Staal clearing it in that particular direction -- what other direction do you want him to go? Up the middle? Across the middle to the right? The play there is to go up the near boards, which he did. He didn't get it high enough, which is extremely unfortunate. He had to make a very quick decision and execution of that pass -- it's all in the heat of the moment, and he made a mistake.

I don't understand why there's this insistence on putting the loss on the shoulders of one guy. Others have to bear responsibility also.

Only the brilliant minds on this board would blame Drury for Staal fluffing a clearing attempt.

Lousy way to end it, but Staal played a tremendous game tonight other than the gaff at the end.

i cant vote because i feel the rangers team as a whole played a pretty decent first playoff game....got the game into OT...almost made it through a full OT period. The team is young, and the 2nd period was better than the first and i think the 3rd was a bit better than the 2nd...OT wasn't bad just a little nervous.

I'm ready for game 2...bring it on!!!! great job lundqvist...small hiccup, but last time we played them in the playoffs we won the first 2 in washington, so maybe losing the first game will work in our favor this time...good game, let's go rangers in game 2 on friday!!!

Between that goal and the Ovechkin high stick called a rough the rangers don't stand a chance.
only in the new nhl.
This was one of the better refereed games in recent memory. Good non-calls both ways. I would have been pissed about the non-call on Prust (interference) right before the winner, but the Rangers got away with a lot in OT themselves.

The refs didn't play a part in this loss. You're barking up the wrong tree.

I saw a lot of HOF defensemen in their prime, and in the postseason, they rarely made the play Staal did. 99 times out of 100, he peels back behind the net and waits for an opening.

Just a dumb play, but I think if he clears it, it just delays the inevitable. The Rangers were not winning that game no matter what.

Thank you.

"Oh but Staal should've cleared the crease!"

He can't when he's get manhandled into Hank, the ref can't see the puck but let's the play go on when it's UNDER HANK.

The boys played a hell of a game tonight. Very proud of the way they played past a few gaffes. We'll take the victory next time.

while the refs botched it, i didn't think we did enough in order to win.

proud of hank, sauer, gilroy, girardi, boyle, prust and wolski. they all had strong games.

the first two periods we could not find any momentum. we dominated the third though. that OT was very one sided. i feel like we didn't test their goaltender much at all through the entire game.

very disappointed drury and staal both failed to clear the puck and it ended up costing us dearly.

When you ask a defenseman to play as much as we do Staal, he's bound to make some mistakes.

First goal should have never happened. Intent to blow the whistle or whatever the **** you want to call it. They went Paul Bunyan on the defense and Henrik.
