WOW! WTF! "Bobrovsky Unnerved Already?!"

Quote:
Sergei Bobrovsky says he's "nervous."

Not as much as those jittery Philadelphia Flyer fans on Broad St. who hope the rookie goaltender is not the reincarnation of Roman Cechmanek.

In the battle between the pipes that will ultimately help decide the first-round series between the Buffalo Sabres and Philadelphia Flyers, defending Vezina Trophy winner Ryan Miller would seem to have a decided edge.

And, after Bobrovsky admitted Wednesday that the butterflies already are churning inside his belly, well, that might be cause for concern for a Flyers team that more often than not has had goaltending questions over the years.

Back in the Flyers Stanley Cup years of the 1970s, a sign at the Spectrum blared: "Only Christ Saves More Than Bernie Parent."

Excuse Flyer fans if they don't have the same expectations of a "nervous" Bobrovsky, who will make his NHL playoff debut Thursday in Game 1 of the best-of-seven first-round series.

Did anyone really expect any different? Im sure that the other nineteen guys on the team are nervous to some degree too. Also being nervous does not mean that he's gonna suck, plenty of guys are better when they feel the pressure to perform at a higher level.

I think it's good that he's feeling a bit nervous. Once he makes that first save, then all the nerves will go away. This is his first playoff experience ever, so yeah, he should be a bit nervous. I'm willing to bet come game time though, he'll be ready to go and that he'll be ok. Honestly, I'd be worried if he weren't nervous for his first ever professional playoff experience......

Yeah but if his nervousness goes the wrong way and he gets shelled, then pulled, I will quickly get into panic mode. And not just for the game, but for the entire series.

Omg he's nervous to play in his first playoff game?! The Flyers are screwed! He probably wasn't nervous at all during his first NHL game against Pittsburgh (or any games since then). I'm not even going to bother watching this game!

Bob seems to have the demeanor of a big time goalie. I get the feeling he'll be able to make the big time save when needed.

oh god...as soon as I read this, a very specific image came to mind:

Backlund on the bench during the playoffs yesterday with a combo look of a deer in headlights and someone who went #2 in his pants

No offense, because I don't know you and you're probably a really cool person and stuff, but I'm not particularly concerned if you go into "panic mode". As long as the players don't go into panic mode, the Flyers will be fine.

Look, this team, like every other team in the playoffs, is going to face adversity. The Flyers faced adversity last postseason, and they're gonna face adversity again this postseason. This is just a simple fact.

For the most part, fans go into "panic mode" about every little thing that doesn't go their teams' way. It's natural. But the best teams deal with it and move on. That's what makes the best teams champions in the end.

Bob may poop his pants and get shelled, and the Flyers may have to go in another direction. If that's the case, the team will either deal with it and overcome it, or they won't.

*shrugs*

The definition can be interpreted many ways but Gary Dornhoefer famously said about Game 7 against the Rangers in 1974 "It's the worst I felt but it's a good sign if you're nervous because it means you're ready." He did pretty well, scored twice in a 4-3 win. Rookie goalie, of course, can mean something different but being nervous isn't always a negative.

Not to mention the total lack of context or real quotation in this 'article.'

This is an inflammatory hack piece with little to no substance and an overt tone of condescension. It is, at best, a baseless editorial.

It's written to make fans freak out in response, and it's working. Don't let some hack writing for the Toronto Sun (how relevant are they in the playoffs when Toronto isn't even involved?!) fool you into freaking out.

I don't think that's an issue.

I think Bob sometimes doesn't know how to play the media game. Like 2 months into the season when he said he felt tired. Every other rookie would have felt tired too but not admitted it publicly.

Same applies here. Every other player is nervous as well, but doesn't admit it publicly.

So true.

I'd be more worried if Bob wasn't a little nervous. More often than not, the players that don't get a little nervous this time of year are the players that don't help you win a Cup.

you sir, are a wealth of knowledge. Great analogy

Me and my friends are doing a 7 game series in our Shinny game for a keg of beer and I still feel nervous before some of the games. (my team is up 3-2, but we were up 3-0)

Yea....I'm sure no other players are nervous, haha.

Every player is undoubtedly nervous for game 1 of the playoffs.
