I'm sorry, but I see something very similar in this game as Ive seen from the Flyers since Jan 1st. An inability to score and a desire to waste powerplays.
Take that last sequence. A PP plus a Sabre with no stick, almost a 2 man advantage. WHat do they do? Pass, pass pass. Point shots that always get blocked. No one in front of the net. Hesitancy and poor decisions. The one time there was a guy in front of the net, a Flyer from the side of the net passed BACK to the point instead of feeding the man in front.
Yeah great puck possession and some chances, but how about capitalizing?
Nope. Not at all good. These guys have forgotten how to score. And if they get lotsa chances and dont score, with their shaky goaltending.. Sabres will get 1/3rd of their scoring chances and capitalize. Which will demoralize.
Maybe I'm being paranoid but that's what I see. Hope I'm proven wrong.
Really solid first period. I love the physical play and intensity of playoff hockey. Leino looks better than he's done in a while (not that hard though). JvR is playing great. Versteeg and Richards has been good as well I think. Timonen is awesome. Meszaros has been rock solid defensively. Brière will definitely have a goal or two in this game if he keeps his play up.
