Thoughts On Mike Sullivan?

Should we bring him back next year? What do we think about how he runs the Power Play? How about his intermission interviews?

Who is worse at running the PP..Sullivan or Perry Pearn? I think it's pretty close.

I said it once and I'll say it again: Why is NO ONE attempting a one-timer?

We don't do that and we don't have anyone that can take a slapshot. The other team looks forward to blocking our shots; they must fell like tickles.

I have a friend who is very close to Gilroy and Gilroy has told him that the players especially the young ones despise Sullivan.

One look at our powerplay should tell you enough. And since when do intermission interviews factor into coaching ability?

Quick question. With about 10 minutes left there was a stoppage because the Caps net came off the moorings. I replayed it several times and I still think they intentionally knocked it off. Am I wrong?

It's the most frustrating aspect of this team. Can him. 1 for the last 31.

Nice second hand information.

Like I was always told 'don't believe everything you hear and only half of what you see'.

Maybe it's Gilroy who "despises" him...

Even if we did get 2 or 3 more calls our way, you really think we would score 1?

Well, neither was very successful here in NY. How much of that has to do with the players they had to work with and how much is due to their tactical approach is the real question.

Shameful that this ****ing moron has a job. We are the only team in the NHL that can't set up a PP, shoot a one timer, or make a tape to tape pass. I know we win because we outwork other teams, but jesus something as got to give. I have never seen a more unique team in my life. They have to do everything differently.

Except for the fact that the myth about Perry Pearn being the problem with this team's powerplay is currently being debunked by the Montreal Canadiens' having a Perry Pearn coached power play that is top 10 in the league.

You know this fanbase is getting desperate when people start debating the merits of the assistant coach. The fact of the matter is that we know less than .05% of what Mike Sullivan actually does and what impact, if any, he actually has on this team.

The fact that there are people that honestly believe the assistant coach is the reason why our powerplay is inadequate year after year really just goes to show a complete lack of analytical and cognitive reasoning abilities.

Bring in any assistant coach you want. With this roster, the PP will still suck.

I think Green knocked it off, if I'm not mistaken. And yes, he absolutely did so on purpose.

Look at the personnel on this PP. Not so sure coaching is this issue here.

Who is our offensive defenseman? Do we have even have a center that could be considered top six playing on the PP right now? And one of our best weapons on last year's PP, Gaborik, is a total dud this year.

This team doesn't have the talent to execute any sort of successful strategy on the PP.

I'm sure that two years ago there was a similar thread titled "Thoughts on Perry Pearn?"

Same deal.

Isn't Sullivan Torts' boy? I don't think Torts will be happy about Sather cutting his ass.

This team needs a puck-hog or two... Someone who wants the puck on his stick, yet has the creativity (and chemistry) to create something with his peers.

What kills me is what most of the forwards do on the ice when we're on the attack. Players w/o the puck don't know how to find open ice. They clog up the the slot, where they can easily be defended against, especially since we're terrible shooters who lack basic one-timer knowledge. Must be NHL-93 syndrome. Or was it 94? The one before they had one-timers.

It seems like no one on this team is comfortable with puck on the PP. I guess because they realize they don't have the vision or creativity to make things happen. I'd love to see a player like Gaborik call for the puck more and just tee up a shot. But he's really hesitant on the PP this year.

Oh, and I believe it was NHL 94 that first introduced the one-timers. I remember when NHL 94 was considered "revolutionary" for its time.

Pearn might have better talent to work with there, but I don't see how anyone can deny that the overall powerplay strategy/approach during his time here seemed lacking/predictable/uninspired.
