Don't see many talking about Gaborik. I may be in the minority, but unless this guy was playing with a really bad injury towards the end of the season into these playoffs there is no excuse. Unless that's the case, I'd like to see him packaged.
Also a note on Anisimov. The game he plays...he will never be affective in the playoffs. Never. He will get run over time after time by applying himself softly wherever the puck is. He's a soft player who is easily contained along the boards. I'm losing interest everyday now. He is someone who I'd start to dangle too just to see what offers you get.
We always get the Russians who **** the bed, especially after 1994. Yea Arty is young, yeah on paper he had a better season in his 2nd year, and yes he will put up 50+ POINTS in the regular season, but it's the style he plays. He just doesn't want to engage physically when he should. That's not going to work in the playoffs.
Only on this board could a player "**** the bed" having only played two NHL playoff games. You're way, way off base.
Yeah but Luongo is better than Neuvirth though. Also the Canucks are a powerhouse this year better than the Caps.
And, the Hawks are a year from winning a Cup. The Rangers have one player potentially as good offensively as the five players I listed, and he's not playing anywhere near his capabilities.

That word potentially is very questionable right now.
we're 1 for 31 on our powerplay. that pretty much says it all there.
We have too many players who do not produce and do little if anything to affect the game in the Rangers favor.
Wolski - bust, should go.
Christensen - experiment over. failed. go.
Prospal - plays hard. good guy. can't skate. no longer top six player. go.
Avery - does little good anymore. lost focus. go.
Fedetenko - good soldier but not getting younger. not necessary
Zuccarello - people really need to stop with this kid. if you were honest, you'd admit he's nothing special outside of the shootout.
At his size he needs to show enormous talent and potential to make this lineup. He has done that and you know it.
Boyle - let's not give this guy real money. maybe move him in the right deal?
Anisimov - another guy i'd move in the right deal along with MDZ.
He does nothing for games on end.
Gilroy - don't resign.
Dubinsky - don't pay big money. he's never taken the next step
as big game player.

Yeah and they lost a bunch of key players from there cup run. Them not scoring is a surprise the Rangers not scoring should have been expected considering the offense disappeared at the end of the year. That and no Callahan hurts a lot.
Don't know about the rest of you, but it seems like we are smaller team out there.
Battles along the wall are being won by what seems like a larger caps player.
Our big man (boyle) has reverted to playing like a flea.
Just seems like there is no ability to impose their physical will on the opponent.
The Caps are preventing the down low cycle by being a lot more physical than they had been and that's been a bit surprising.
Finally, a combination of the Caps playing very well defensively and the Rangers absolute lack of offensive creativity is going to mean an early exit from the PO's boys.
Not sure I like the lesson this is teaching the 7 guys that are popping their Playoff cherries this year.
Good post, PLD. We're looking at this from the POV as Ranger fans, but, it's possible we are witnessing a Cap team that may have learned their lessons from recent embarrassments.

so whats your team next year after you get rid of everybody.

Bingo, they finished top for a reason, and you could see in the last few months that they'd altered their style to suit the playoffs. The Rangers aren't playing great hockey but the results shouldn't really be a surprise to anyone.

That's my point. The fact that the Rangers are not scoring in a playoff series really shouldn't be all that surprising. We all know they lack top tier scoring ability. There was a reason some of us wanted to see the Rangers pursue Kovalchuk this past off-season, not to mention draft a player with legitimate offensive ability in the 1st round last June.

i'm not saying get rid of everybody, but we've got to drop at least 3-4 dead weight players, and possibly move some others in trade for another scorer.
we can get Richards to center Gaborik, but we're going to need another wing that can score on that line

Exactly. The depressing part is: How far away are we from where the caps are now?
Anyone care to venture a guess? What? We sign Richards and we're there?
And I love how people expect our second liners to play like first liners against Ovechkin-Backstrom-Semin.
I think its even more entertaining that people believe that our second liners will somehow become as good as Ovechkin-Backstrom-Semin if they just lose in the first round of the playoffs a couple of times.

hmmmm
having a bonafide center is start don't you think? We'd need to make a trade for another scorer imo as well.
This team has too many "spare parts". we need talent up front to lead by example. We have some nice young players in the system, but no game changers anytime soon.

Show me where anybody has said ANYTHING like this, please. I beg you.
Because when you can't you'll realize you're exaggerating and feel bad.
