hmmmm
It's hard to answer (obviously). In the next 3-5 years they wont be able to match the Caps in terms of offensive skill and depth but that doesn't mean that they wont be able to beat them in a 7 game series.

A lot of it comes down to hoping the kids develop as players and with a system that can beat the top teams while being under gunned. I don't think the kids will quite be up to scratch overall which will mean that the Rangers will go UFA hunting again. Maybe they'll eventually get the mix right.....

Our physical game is there, we need more offense and more Avery. I think tonight Avery has garnered more ice time definitely.

Neuravithawith has had an EASY 2 games so far. EASY.

Bring this back home and punish them.
more offense? how about just some? this team has no offense.
they win games by attrition, but it has caught up to them. they are nearly worn out.

Avery is gone. finished. he was effective his first tenure here and a little in his second tenure. Tortorella had him "fixed".

Ah yes, a START. So after we get this " bonafide center" and make our "start", how many years after that are we serious contenders?

Oh, BTW, when did Sather's tenure "start"?

Just askin'

Experience changes players. That's all he needs is experience.

Guys i really don't want to see on this team anymore are nonfactors like christensen, wolski, Avery, and gilroy.

I'd move anyone else in trade for the right scorer.

Wow turning on our own kind here. Sad.

Anyways, if anyone here had the TSN feed tonight they had a great little Avery interlude before the puck drop.

had me pumped.

Bring it back to the madhouse Garden. We're winning.

I don't know, guys.....I think that, except for tonight's second period, the Rangers have been right with the Caps. Falling behind by 2 goals is never good, and that's why the third period was also frustrating....but it appeared the Rangers were trying to get back into it.

Game 1 could've gone either way.

You'll get to Neuvirth.....have faith going home.

He doesn't battle and he isn't willing along the boards. Experience can change players and usually does to a certain extent, but some players have been coached a very different way at a young age and the better part of their game is based off that style that's been hammered into them from youth.

wait i'll look at my crystal ball and back to you...

what kind of answer do you really want? It's Sather again now?
i have to answer for Sather?

we have a franchise goalie and some core pieces. what direction do you suggest we take? Tank for first round picks? Lundqvist won't be young forever! We should try to field the best team in front of him while he is in his prime.

I really wish Avery would play every game like he did in the 3rd. That's Sean Avery and he can get be a factor if he plays like that. I don't know what's holding him back, whether its Torts or himself but he's gotta play like that otherwise he's useless.

I can't believe people on here are complaining about the officiating. Suck it up, the Rangers look bad.

i think avery is coming back and i think tonight he played himself into the rest of the series. the trouble is, were not going to be getting anybody who is consistently scoring with the guys we can get rid of.

their fanbase is nothing but a collection of johnny-come-latelys.

they went the welfare rout and scored top players. now they're relevant because they support the business model of this broken sport.

Neither has a majority of this team.

Anisimov's in his second season and first time in the playoffs.

Who's to say Tortorella and this playoff experience isn't going to help him?

its tough to play like that every game considering last time he took a penalty it was in the 3rd period when we had a 4 goal lead and then sat the next 4 or 5 games. he cant play like that when torts uses him the way he does.

Although I am a fan of Sean, what you say is true. Lots of folks here point out his failings. Like you say, Tortorella took something that was actually valuable, and let it go.
Maybe Renney was much more special than I thought. Perhaps I should not blame Tortorella, since there are no other coaches who would want Avery, but I will always say that Avery did have something pretty unique going for him that is no longer there.

End of discussion.

You're right. Some players are just not willing to play the style necessary to compete in playoff hockey. I think it was Maloney who referenced the playoff style as the "north american game". It's a nice way of saying certain players from certain continents won't get dirty.

Most of the time either you have it or you don't. It's not part of Arty's game. Tort's can try hammering it into him all he wants, it's just not how he has learned the game.

Stepan isn't an overly physical player either, but he has the ability to be strong along the boards. He has gradually as the season has progresses played more engaging.

Avery hasn't been relevant for quite some time now.

if the right deal comes along, we might have to package a prospect or two and pick. tortorella said it himself a week or so ago that we have to bring in more talent next year. there is only so much this guy can do with this lineup.

we are going nowhere with christensen, Prospal, and wolksi in our top six. i'm aggravated we didn't get someone better for rosival than this zero wolski.

Anybody remeber 4 yrs ago?? ?

07 NYR were down 2-0 to Buffalo, a really, really good Sabres team. They were fast, really fast. We were all but swept and this board looked exactly like it does tonight. We're coming home, guess what happened when we came home that yr? We still have Hank, that's all that matters.
