Why wasn't Zherdev in the warm ups Game 1???

Highly UNUSUAL for healthy scratched players NOT to skate in the pre game warm-ups. Normally EVERY player (unless injured) does..

Whats with that?
Is he injured, or pissed off & left the team??

Why didn't he skate pre game??

He was in the locker room shining Lavi's shoes.

Maybe they wanted him out there but couldn't find him. It's happened before.

The way he's being treated is piss poor. The guy did everything he could to prove he should be in the team. Then he's left out for game 1?

pathetic.

Dude, he earned that treatment. I'm not anti-Zherdev but he brought most of this on himself.

The last 4-5 games he played well, and Richards also benefitted.

Even if he was power play only, he would help..

Puzzling as to why he was not in the warm ups..

His defence is horrible and there are already other bad defensive guys (Briere line) in the lineup. Defence is critical in the playoffs so that's probably why he didn't play. Maybe he had a hissy fit when told and they chose to keep him off the ice so he didn't ruin the team's focus. Maybe they kept him off since they have a ton of call ups from the Phantoms so they can't put everyone out there.

You don't stop a player on the roster from skating over rookies who may never see a game.

His defense might be bad, but he re-started the flyers offense. He got something going and had some of the best shifts i've seen all year with G and Carter. Yet he seems scratched for no reason at all. No wonder he's pissed.

Zherdev has the best corsi value of any flyer (and is one of the top in league). Corsi is a measure of puck possession (how much his team controls the puck versus how much the oppisition is in control of the puck). The coaching staff has totally misused this guys skills all year and is frustrating this talented player. He is not a grit/grinder flyer player and he plays a different game better suited for other teams. I just wish the coaching staff would stop trying to fit this guy into the flyer mold square peg mold.

Not to mention he is 3rd on the team in even strength goals per 60 minutes. Nearly doubling Giroux's number.

Get this honky some ice time.

The only reason Zherdev never gets to play is because Laviolette has his favorite players and ones he doesn't like. Zherdev is a player Laviolette doesn't like. When a team is struggling to score on the PP with that much talent, Laviolette does not try to change the PP's scheme or change the personnel dramatically. Zherdev is a perfect player for the powerplay like Powe or Betts are PK specialists. Why Carcillo is playing over Zherdev is beyond me. The last few games Zherdev was one of the Flyers best players on the ice. The only thing keeping him off the ice is arrogance from the coach. There needs to be a change to get the PP rolling and the Flyers have failed to make a substantial change.

Last year, Riley Cote skated EVERY warm up in the playoffs and was scratched every game.

Spot on brother. And that change you are talking about? Once we're bounced out of the playoffs in the next several days, that change starts with finding a new head coach. One who doesn't waste the amazing talent that the GM has so brilliantly supplied him with.

Well Lavy did bench Brind'Amour quite often, but he DID play him in the playoffs...

I believe EVERY player steps up their defensive game & back checks HARD in the playoffs.. Scoring is more of a need especially when opposing teams are ALSO playing strong defensive games..

And since that is the case, I would say they purposely kept Z away from the team for other reasons. He isn't exactly known for being a team player.

Edit: Were Shelley and Boynton in the skate? They were both healthy scratches.

I thought Shelley was good to go with a full face shield before the season ended and Boynton was able to play through his injury?

For nodl/carcillo no less. But goals are fairly easy to come by so we shouldn't miss him too much...

Homer said at Town Hall this week that only Pronger was injured to the degree where it would affect his ability to play. Shelley, Boynton, Betts (obviously) are cleared to skate, according to the GM.

I doubt he was ordered not to participate. With Zherdev's track record, it seems likely he elected not to.

Of course...who really cares? Not that big of a deal, imo.
