that'd only mean an Erhoff is on his way to Vancouver!

Sign him up, there's nothing to lose but Aquilini's money !
I'm pretty sure Gillis and Co are only doing this to troll Brian Burke and snatch away all these quasi-first rounders.

Any updates on this front?

I have a feeling any undrafted free agents Gillis et al sign this spring are going to get a lot more fanfare after the success of Tanev, Lack, Sweatt, and Volpatti.

I forgot that all four of those goes were free agent acquisitions just last season. Holy smokes...it's like we added a whole other draft year by doing that. Go Gillis Go!

(and yes, I am omitting Eric Walsky and Evan Oberg....although Oberg was parlayed into Chris Higgins, so I'm pretty happy with that )

Also from my foray into the prospects thread I remembered Schneider and Archibald!

Imagine if this was our 2010 draft, how would people feel?

1. Chris Tanev
2. Eddie Lack
3. Bill Sweatt
4. David Archibald
5. Lee Sweatt
6. Aaron Volpatti
7. Stefan Schneider

Pretty damn good haul!!

Considering the ages of all those players (most of them are 88 and 89 born), these signings help compensate the brutal 2007 draft.

It's incredible to see the positive change between Nonis and Gillis when it comes to undrafted free agents. From Shaun Heshka and Pierre-Cedric Labrie to Tanev, Lack, Sweatt, etc. Night and day difference.

Thanks, not the first time I've mixed that up..

Good call on the 2007 draft..wow what a bust. I guess Ellington still has some hope of being a steady AHLer, and Kablukov could have a decent career in the KHL, but seriously that is 5 misses, including one of, if not the worst, 1st rounder in Canuck history.

Here are his stats and a brief scouting report:

Anyone know if his contract would get in the way?

edit: never mind it was sort of answered in the 2nd article:

Lars Lindgren says that there is a chance that Vancouver will offer Sebastian Erixon, a contract proposal.

- But it will probably take a while with everything. For even if it pops up a proposal to require Sebastian get a hefty think also. You can have plans but when the contract proposal well become reality you need to be thinking through everything carefully, "he explains.

Canucks sign free agent D Sebastian Erixon

Hey guys thought i would post about this since nobody had mentioned it so far.

Vancouver has signed 21year old (born september 89) defender Sebastian Erixon on a 2 year deal

source: http://dagbladet.se/sport/1.2971891-...-for-vancouver Google Translate version http://translate.google.se/translate...-for-vancouver

his EP-page: http://eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=5546

He is an offensive defender who is good at skating and has decent hands for a defender. His shot is often well placed but hardly the hardest on the team. Sebastian is still on the small side physically. He should bulk up, thats the main issue with him atm i think. He's not exactly Chara..

One of those overlooked prospects, one of those guys that would've been a steal as a late-round pick.

No relation. Therefore he actually has a chance to make an impact in the NHL.

The Timra website says he is 5'7, the SEL says he is 5'10 and eliteprospects says he is 5'11.

So which one is accurate?

5'7: no shoes
5'10: skates
5'11: skates + helmet

Always happy for more free prospects and the more Swedish defencemen the better.

Yep, adding prospects without giving anything up besides a contract spot is usually a solid move.

This is just an example, one never knows what happens with players but it is still interesting.

One could compare with Victor Hedman (one year older and one year ahead in NHL; much bigger fellow but ok), he got 0.49 PPG in SEL his last year there. His first year in NHL was 0.27 PPG.

Erixon got 0.45 PPG in SEL this season, with the same development he would get 0.25 PPG. That is better than Tanev, Rome, Ballard but trailing Bieksa's 0.33.

In other words, there is a possibility that he might crack the lineup on the bottom pairing.

With that said, Hedman is more talented and one could expect him to develop better. They also got different frames, but both are two ways and did put up similar points in SEL. But the environment with the Swedes at the Canucks (particularly Edler) and the much better organisation in Vancouver compared to Tampa I would say that he could pan out as another nice move by the mastermind Gillis.
