I want our fans to show the NHL who has the wildest fans... Show Philly who has the better fans/franchise.

Mancari and Persson were recalled from Portland on an emergency callup.

That doesn't seem promising.

just because they were recalled doesn't mean they will play does it?

I guess if Sekera missed practice Persson may get the nod.

Where did you hear that? I can't find anything about either being recalled.

The #Sabres have recalled forward Mark Mancari and defenseman Dennis Persson from Portland (AHL) on an emergency basis.

There is something fishy about all of this, as TBN was reporting that Mancari was physically sent back to Portland, only to be recalled soon after? I don't recall seeing any other forwards looking hurt during game 2. Maybe he they're recalling these guys for insurance purposes?

He was sent down, because the Sabres didn't play yesterday and the Pirates had a playoffs game in Hartford. Why not let him play there, when he's a healthy scratch anyway. It's not like he wasted much energy playing lately. That game keeps him fresh and prevents him from being rusty when the Sabres need him. He's their 13th forward right now, so there's nothing surprising with the call-up.

That's an interesting question. My understanding of emergency recall was that you could only do it if you didn't have enough healthy skaters, not if you MIGHT not have enough healthy skaters, unless they are required to convert that to a regular recall if they don't use him.

I'll have to look that up.

Ah, how quickly I forget about the AHL and the Calder Cup and how the Sabres have stripped Portland of their star players

They only have 4 standard recalls to use after the trading deadline. They wouldn't burn one just to give Mancari an extra game.

Since it was an emergency recall, the assumption would be that someone can't go, or is 50/50.

Theoretically couldn't they just send him down on paper before the game starts?

Possible, but I am not 100% sure how the ins and outs of the process works.

The way the CBA reads, an emergency condition must already exist before a player can be recalled on emergency, so I don't think it's possible that teams can do 'just in case' emergency recalls, but maybe that is actually what they're doing. I'm not totally clear on the implementation.

I hope they dress 7 dman. It's risky using Leopold or Sekera not knowing if they can be effective until the game is underway or how long they'll last. If another dman gets hurt or a misconduct, Leopold or Sekera would have to play major minutes. It makes sense to dress Persson as insurance. He can also play wing.

Pretty sure Schiestel is hurt, but the way the call-up process works is, Ruff calls Kevin Dineen and asks for the best player for the spot.... Dineen told them Persson.

Schiestel is out for the season, has been for a while. Persson has improved his play lately. I would assume that was why he was recalled the other day.

We went through this on Saturday but apparently you missed it. Schiestel has been out with a knee injury, Ruff said Persson has been Portland's best defensemen, which I'm sure was influenced by Dineen's opinion.
