Wish Shero signed players to those long term deals?

Notice how the Flyers and Red Wings signed all their core players to those long term contracts to save money on the cap each year? With the Pens core being at such a young age, anybody wish that Ray Shero would sign our guys to those deals?? Now it wouldnt have to be 10 years but how about 7 or 8? It would really help us on the wing to bring in a high impact player or 2.

But of course there is the down in those deals to. Injuries, lack of production and ugh ugh concussions ugh ugh, can really damper a team down the road with those deals.

Look at Tampa Bay, they still have like 7 or 8 years left of Lecavalier's deal and he's clearly in the back nine of his prime.

It's just that if we don't get the production from Sid our team does lack depth at forward. Geno's production and style of play in general hasnt been the same since the Cup in 09. These long term deals can help out a team in some ways. Just a thought.

The 2 guys most suited to super long deals are currently off the active roster with career threatening injuries.

I'll start and end with rick dipietro...not a good idea. I'm really not for anything more than 5. It's pro sports...littered with could have been, should have been...just not a prudent move.

NJ surely didn't show everyone how it was done...keep in mind they played short of the league minimum due to the fact they couldn't round out the roster with AHL call ups.

Not a good idea in my book, 6 year contracts maximum save for Crosby who can have as many as he wants.

Think of all the new Pens records he could set!
Most Penalty Minutes, Most Suspensions
Fastest person injured off the first faceoff: 3 seconds
Most people killed in one period: 4
Most blindside hits in one game: 6
Most Souls Consumed in 60 Minutes.....

Campbell should just put him on speed dial.

Shero shouldve been taking advantage of that stupid age 35 loophole while it's still legal. It's such an obvious cap circumvention that it will be changed in some way at the next CBA.

Yep I agree. I would have loved to see Sid/Geno signed to ridiculous deals.
