Showing up? Not so much

The Good -

- Physical play out of Grier.
- Gragnani's powerplay savvy
- Nate Gerbe. 'nuf said.
- East Coast Monty on the PK
- Timmmah! Connolly at the dot, on the PK and a bit at even strength.
- Boyes was better with the McCormick-Grier wingers.
- Nieds again.

The Bad -

- A shoot-in hits one guy, then defects off a stick? Christ
- West Coast Monty with another bum clear.
- Did Hjalmarsson visit town while we weren't looking and smoosh Pominville's head again? Hey Jason. Wake the **** up.
- Pominville.
- Vanek leaving the zone earlie.
- Connolly at the end of the game.
- Ennis.

The Ugly --

- Birthday Hartnell and his mullet fro.
- Butler soft and giving up the three-on-0 in front for a goal against.
- The same old static 5-on-3 results in the same old result -- nothing. Standing still never won anything.
- Pominville. Hitting a guys pads on a five on three? Hello, idiot.
- Vanek --- wake up!
- Connolly on the five on three.

I find myself just being content that we made the playoffs, in a "well, that was kinda cute!" way.

And I hate it.

Come on, Sabres.

Why do we keep trying to stuff it short side on the post? It was open all game. They kept going for it.

The effort and the "stars" could not have been more disappointing.

serious question: if by some act of God we come back to win this series (which I would bet my life will not happen), does anyone actually think we can take Washington in Round 2, given the half-hearted, "show-up-when-we-feel-like-it" effort this team has put out so far coupled with all the injuries?

Connolly in the good, bad, and ugly?

Good:

Gaustad
Gragnani
Gerbe
Boyes
Stafford
Neidermayer

Bad:

Grier
Montador
Myers

Ugly:

Vanek
Pominville
Pominville and Connolly still playing the point on the powerplay despite Gragnani leading the team in points and Leopold being back.

I said this in the GDT but Myers must be hurt. He's playing bad and it can't just be the pressure of the playoffs, he's better than that.

Miller needs to steal a game this series.

Good:

Gragnani is becoming a revelation. Not overly physical, but love his first pass.
Gerbe brought it tonight.
Boyes looked solid out there tonight

Bad
Vanek was invisible
Poms was invisible
Connolly (outside of PK and FOs) was invisible

Ugly
It's obvious we need that calming defenseman out there. Our D was perpetually out of position tonight.
That 5-on-3 PP was brutal. Stand still more.

Where the heck is our "core"
Where the heck is our offensive players?
Where the heck is of consistent team defense? We saw it at points this series but other times we looked like a NBA team... commitment to defense optional

No. BUT if we get Hecht and Roy back the talent on this team will be a lot greater than it was this series. But I mean, we have to get by Philly first, and that isn't looking promising...

In the faceoff dot and defensively, yes.

Offensively, he was awful. Was a black hole on the PP.

We need to bring in winners via the draft and free agency. Just players that have won. That know what it takes. Gerbe carried a national championship team, it doesn't surprise me that he's the only one of a small handful that are showing up.

When you give Flyers easy gifts because of poor defensive coverage and you have to claw and scrape for every goal you get, your not going to win a series.

Mind you, it seems like only 2 of our lines were actually clawing.

That was the team defense, mostly. He had to make about one tough save. If he didn;t have it in him to play better, that's one thing. This is just average.

He was good at times, I guess. I just put him under the "ugly" category because he's part of the unmentionable VCP line.

Gragnani leads the entire freaking NHL right now in playoff points. And Ruff chooses to put Connolly and Pommer on the points. Un-freaking-real.

With the exception of Stafford, the top players (Myers, Vanek, Miller, Connolly, Pominville, Ennis) weren't near good enough tonight. The season will be over on Friday night unless a couple of those guys snap out of it.

Compared to what... a corpse?

I think a bloated corpse would have been a net positive, compared to TC.

Completely worthless hockey player.

I'll say this - this core is, yet again, giving Regier every reason in the world to break them up this offseason. The guys just don't have "it". No killer instinct at all. Completely ineffective when the pressure gets turned up.

Partial marks. I'd rather lose to a team who closes out the game strong defensively with my team looking like they give a **** about the game. The last 10 mins were brutal to watch. No drive, no guts, no determination, no entertainment.

Pretty much. ES a bit, he was competing more than his linemates and he was good on the PK and at the dot. But on the powerplay, where he's supposed to make his living? Yeah. Not good.
