Christensen...

This guy can have a hell of a shot, as displayed in game 3. He's not physical, but even so don't you think he should score more? He only had 11 goals all year. His career in a word is inconsistent, but I can't help but feel he still has potential despite him not being the youngest player. I doubt he'll ever be more than what he is at this point, but man he's almost as much of a tease as Zherdev was. Your thoughts?

Zherdev actually scores though Christensen has all the tools, but unfortunately no tool box. Really frustrating to watch him.

I just wish he was more consistent. When he's on, he's on. That shot in game 3 was masterful.

There are some nights when Christensen lights it up and there are other nights when he's pretty much invisible. He is almost like Zherdev lite--not quite as talented but his negatives aren't quite as bad as Zherdev's either. As an example he is less apt to make a boneheaded play in the defensive end. There is also the matter of compensation. I prefer the inconsistent Christensen at $875 K to the even more heartless primadonnaesque Zherdev at the $3 mil or whatever we paid him a couple years ago. Christensen is decent to good value for his contract. He's never going to get super rich and we can walk away from him as soon as a better option comes along. What you might call a utility man.

When he plays with confidence and actually uses his awesome shot, he's effective. Otherwise, he's useless.

0.43 PPG + Shoot out prowess / $925K = Bargain

And let's not forget, he's tied for first in Ranger play-off scoring ...

He doesn't even come close to having ALL the tools.

Send him to a sports psychologist.

he does have a hell of a shot, but his game is so bizarrely perimeter for the NHL that he damn near never gets himself a good look to use it effectively.

The typical high skilled forward that can't cut it in this league has a pretty damn good shot. But the NHL game is to find room on the ice, and create open looks for yourself. Christensen is a seriously talented player, but it's hardly an NHL styled game

I'd keep him. Very good 4th liner. If consistent 3rd/2nd liner.

no, he isn't that fast, does not have a monster shot, his hands (I guess you mean stickhandling) is nothing too special.

Amazing how some confuse one lucky shot with actual skill and ability to do that on a more or less regular basis. If this guy could really shoot like that he wouldn't have 11 goals in 63 games.

Christensen has AHL skill on an NHL team.

if he was in the AHL he would be an All-Star.

Not sure he has the work ethic to be a star in AHL.

It was never a question about skill. It is work ethic and consistency. The guy has problems with his self confidence and is always second guessing himself. In no way am I saying that he is an all star, but the guy could be a good second liner if he had the work ethic that someone like Callahan has

Head case. He's his own worst enemy.

Players with mental/emotional issues are the most frustrating. Christensen is not like a Boyle who can hire a skating coach to help with his deficiencies. Some Rangers fans were hoping Christensen would put up 50-60 points on Gaborik's line this season, but there was no way that was ever happening, he doesn't have the mental fortitude to play well consistently.

He barely shoots. He only took 86 shots in 63 games. Doesn't even average 2 shots a game. His shot isn't the reason he only scored 11 goals. His confidence (or lack thereof) is.

I think it was Ola who pointed out that Christensen can make the first move, but not the second to get by an opponent. The same reason he's good at shootouts is why he's not good at open play -- he thinks his moves out beforehand, but he doesn't react well to the play.

It's not even that he's a perimeter player or has bad stickhandling ability -- his best goals come from the high slot with that wicked wrister. It's that the guy can't improvise quickly enough.

If you get him the puck with a moment of time, he can just blow it by the keeper, and he's a decent passer. He just won't ever get enough time in this league to make the plays he wants to.

Obviously it isn't, but it isn't just the confidence, he also has no work ethic and no grit and is satisfied with mediocrity.

I am really amazed how Tort who likes work ethic in his players keeps this guy around as if he is his illegitimate son.

Problem with E.C. is that he's useless unless you're playing him top 6 minutes and with top 6 players and he doesn't deserve to be playing on the top two lines. That's the main reason why we can't generate offense, because Erik ****ing Christensen is getting top minutes a decent amount of the time.

For the money he's making he's been fine but it's mainly a by product of the time and linemates. You play him on the 3rd or 4th line permanently and his point total will decrease even more.

He has a tremendous shot. Not sure how anyone could dispute that.

He has 11 goals because he doesn't shoot.

I mean he's no Zuccarello, but then, who is?
