This means war. Anyone going to the game had better scream loud enough to wake the dead.

This guy's an idiot.

The Kings had better attendance than the Sharks this year.

Seriously, QFT.

Like I said in the GDT - a writer's baiting of the other team worked really well in 1993 when that Toronto writer said Gretzky looked like he was skating with a piano on his back. I wonder if that guy bought the first Leafs golf rounds that year?

LOL... now Yahoo Puck Daddy's gotten involved:

http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/blog/puc...urn=nhl-wp2958

"San Jose writer trolls Kings fans, displays extensive hockey insight."

Does that make Jeff Friesen(notes) their Dave Mustaine?

From Purdy:

That triple tier of hey-look-at-us-and-our-Cristal-champagne-glasses was just perfect for a city of showoff glitterati. But by necessity, the design led to all upper-deck cheaper seats (and louder fans) being pushed higher into the rafters.

This might explain why, over the years, the Sharks have found Staples to be so friendly. Their record in the building is 18-10, plus three ties (under the old point system) and two shootout losses.

Might also have something to do with the arena opening in 1999 and the Kings missing the playoffs from 2002-2009.

Other Purdy nuggets:

"Of course, if you were watching Game 1 and Game 2 closely, then you noticed that the Kings were usually able to get defensemen Rob Scuderi(notes) and Willie Mitchell(notes) onto the ice against the Sharks' top line of Joe Thornton(notes), Patrick Marleau(notes) and Devin Setoguchi(notes)."

Watching how closely, exactly? Scuderi and Mitchell aren't defensive partners. If Purdy's point was that having the last change in LA will help Terry Murray match either Doughty/Mitchell or Johnson/Scuderi with the Thornton line … well, that wasn't really a struggle in San Jose, considering Scuderi and Mitchell play on two different pairings.

• Also, he tells us that Douglas Murray(notes) isn't related to Terry. Thanks for that.

• Finally, he dogs the celebrity element at Kings home games: "The Los Angeles hockey fan 'celebrity' list tends to run along the less-ritzy lines of comedian Martin Short, actor Cuba Gooding Jr. and talk show host Craig Ferguson."

Yeah, call us when these goddesses show up for a Sharks game.

Purdy's is a troll-bait column, and a nonsensical one at that: What local writer lights a fire under the ***** of the opposing fan base in a 1-1 series headed back Los Angeles?

With support like that, no wonder the San Jose Sharks have as many Stanley Cup Finals appearances as Metallica and Kenny G. Combined."

He writes so people will read his paper.

Don't feed the (paid) troll.

However, I would like the LAT to investigate if they could trade Simers for this Purdy guy. Anything would be better than the existing "hockey brain trust" at the Times (Helene excluded of course).

Yea, if your team is a heavy, heavy favorite, the last thing you want to do is energize the opponent. Sharks opened the door a little with their performance in Game 2. The Kings believe, and the fans believe. Would've been a much easier series for them if they took it to the Kings the first 2 games and destroyed the teams (and fans) will. Now, they realize its going to be a battle.

If I were the Kings my copy machine would be SERIOUSLY laboring right now cranking out exactly 18,118 copies of this "article".

Maybe all reading this who are going tonight should each print out 100 copies and distribute ourselves tonight, with the message "pass it on".

Mods, I copied/pasted this article so it fits on a one page printable sheet. Is it OK to post a PDF of it here for anyone who wants to print it up?

edit: NM, site rules don't allow it. If anyone wants a printable one page version, PM me and I'll email it to you.

Now if only he'd write that the Kings don't deserve to be on the same ice surface as the San Jose Sharks (something Woody Paige wrote about the Wild when they played and eliminated the Colorado Avalanche).

*Not saying all NOrcalians are like this, but there are many who have that complex.

wtf? I thought this only happens in Russia.
Somebody wins, somebody loses, but get up to start something bad - it is silly.

Wadding up your soiled underwear after angry sex and shoving it down the family of your victims throat is fun.
