BUFFALO, N.Y. — For the second time in a week, Mike Richards didn’t join his Flyers teammates on the ice for practice. He missed practice the day before Game 1 with a maintenance day, which was later revealed to be because he had headaches.
The Flyers are calling this a maintenance day as well.
The Flyers captain got his first point of the playoffs in Game 3 on an assist on Nikolay Zherdev’s first career playoff goal which proved to be the game winner.
Zherdev and Kris Versteeg skated with Ben Holmstrom in drills in Richards’ absence.
Richards spoke with the media after the half-hour practice session and will be fine play Wednesday night in Game 4.
He's been hurt for weeks, it's just a matter of what exactly it is? Wrist? Hand? Shoulder? Elbow? It's hard to say, but he's not taking a lot of slapshots these days....although he is taking faceoffs.
And whatever it is, it didn't stop him taking Versteeg's hard cross ice pass and then feathering one in for Zherdev on the GWG.
I just hope whatever it is gets better soon, we need #18 at full force.
Call me negative but I dont think this is a physical problem. I am hoping this isnt some sort of underlying health issue. His "food poisoning, and cough" could be something more serious? I do know he hasnt looked himself all season, and if it was a sore shoulder, elbow, etc im thinking they would have held him out of games so he could heal up imo...
Only players in the last two seasons to have played more games than Richards:
Kimmo Timonen
Duncan Keith
Between the Olympics, playoffs, and the last two seasons, he's been a workhorse, all of them have. He's got to be pretty ****ing tired, but here's to hoping he's got 20 games left in him.
GAHHH THAT *******! And he keeps taking insaneeee horrible penalties in all those damn games he's playing! </ me pretending to be that guy here who really really hates Kimmo>

That was my first thought. Flu a few weeks ago, head cold/headaches before game 1, apparently last night after the game the media guys said he was coughing alot. He spoke to the media today and he did sound like he had a cold so I hope they win in 5 so he can get a few days off. I also wish they'd keep him the hell away from the team on an off day if he's not practicing.

I just hope the team medical staff is testing him and making sure it is just a common cold. His play hasnt been right all year.
